When Victoria confirmed that Julia had swallowed the pill, she said, “That’s poison. If you do what I say, I’ll give you the antidote later.

“But if you decide not to cooperate and tell Darell what we talked about today, sorry, you’ll have to live with the poison. It won’t kill you, but the pain will keep tormenting you.”

Julia thought of her son Simon when he was poisoned previously. He suffered unbearable pain, and no one could identify the poison or how to cure it.

When Simon reached Curtis’s rented apartment, he rang the doorbell, but no one answered for a long while. He took out his phone and dialed Curtis’s number. Not long after, the call was connected. “You and Dad aren’t home?” Simon asked.

“I’m at Gale Entertainment. What’s up?” Curtis replied.

“I got the invitation to Vickie’s birthday party. You, Dad, and Sirena are all invited,” Simon said.

Curtis sounded excited. “Seriously?”

“Yeah. Vickie handed it to me personally. She actually put our names on it.” Simon replied, still feeling excited.

“Just wait for me at the coffee shop downstairs. I’ll head back right now,” Curtis said.

“Okay,” Simon said. After hanging up, he went downstairs to wait for Curtis at the coffee shop.

An hour later, when Curtis’s car slowly drove into the neighborhood, Simon was sitting on a long bench nearby. Just as the car came to a stop and Curtis got out, Simon immediately stood up and walked toward him with light, quick steps.

Curtis closed the car door, and just as he turned around, he spotted Simon coming his way. His face lit up with excitement as he hurried over. “Simon, did you bring the invitations?”

Simon smiled and pulled three invitations from his pocket, handing them to Curtis. “Right here.” Curtis took the invitations, his hands trembling slightly, as if these thin pieces of paper meant the world to him.

He carefully opened the invitation on top, and when he saw his own name on it, his eyes sparkled, and he couldn’t help but show a huge smile.

“Great! Tomorrow, I can finally attend Vickie’s birthday party with my head held high!” Curtis’s voice was full of excitement and anticipation.

“Yeah… This is the first time we’re celebrating our own sister’s birthday, so I brought the invitations for you guys. I’m going to pick out a gift for Vickie personally later,” Simon said, still not sure what to get her. And with money tight lately, it was pretty taxing.

Back then, when he gave Angelica gifts every year, he would have his secretary, Tracy, hunt down the latest limited–edition bags, clothes, or jewelry. Each of them would cost more than 70 thousand dollars.

But now, with barely any savings left, he couldn’t afford anything too expensive. But if he got something too cheap, he was afraid Victoria would turn her nose up at it.

He thus decided to shop around and see if he could find something that would suit Victoria’s taste, but wouldn’t cost him a fortune.

Curtis said, “Simon, let’s go shopping together. My new song is ready, so I’m not so busy now.”

“Sure.” Simon nodded.

“Just take my car then,” Curtis suggested. He then got into the driver’s seat and placed the invitations in the storage compartment in front of the passenger seat.

Simon hopped into the passenger seat, buckled up, and asked, “Where are Dad and Sirena?”

Curtis replied, “No idea. They were at home when I left this morning. Don’t worry about them. By the time we get back with the gifts, they’ll probably be home too. We can give them the invitations then.”

“Okay.” Simon nodded.

In a private room at a restaurant not far away from the Binder family residence, Sirena said, “Dad, you really don’t have to do this. We could’ve just gone back home to see you. Why insist on meeting outside? It’s so unsafe,” Sirena said.
