Darell shot Sirena a look. Sirena rubbed her hands, looking uneasy. “Dad, this is a really important business secret. I can tell you about it, but can you let me go home?” She said and glanced at Calvin.

“You know how things are with Hector, I’m not doing any better. Because of Bater, the Clark family’s really got it in for me. They’ve come down hard on me in private. If not for the fact that I gave Bater a son, I probably wouldn’t even get to see you anymore.”

Sirena’s voice cracked with emotion. “Dad, I’ve got nowhere else to go. Please, let me go home. Can you just let me stay?”

Darell jumped in. “Dad, you didn’t see it. When I went to pick up Sirena, I could barely bear to look. You know how ruthless the Clark family is. Now that Bater’s locked up, if Sirena stays with them, her life will be nothing but misery.

“Yeah, Sirena messed up and said the wrong things, but she’s still your daughter. There’s no such thing as a grudge lasting overnight between a father and his child.”

Calvin looked at Sirena, who looked utterly worn out, and sighed quietly. When Sirena was little, she was his favorite. No matter what she did wrong, he couldn’t bring himself to punish her.

“Perhaps that’s how Sirena became someone who only knows how to enjoy life but is unwilling to take on any responsibility, Calvin thought.

Calvin had once intended for Sirenato to learn how to run and manage the company. However, all she ever had in mind was marrying into a powerful, prestigious family. So instead, she focused on things like music, chess, calligraphy, and painting.

In the world of the rich, business marriages were nothing out of the ordinary. But choosing Bater was Sirena’s own decision, because the Clark family held immense power and influence in Benwig City. All she ever wanted was to become the lady of the house, living high above everyone else.

It could be said that all the grievances she was suffering in the Clark family now were the result of the decision she made back then.

Seeing a hint of softening in Calvin’s eyes, Sirena seized the moment and said, “Dad, I don’t want any company shares or family assets. All I want is a place to stay, a haven, and a chance to be by your side until the very end.”

Darell also let out a sigh, putting on a look as if he had long since let go of past grudges. “Dad, during the time I was cast out of the family, I’ve had a lot of time to reflect. I was blinded by greed in the past, even turning against my own kin for the sake of the family assets.

“Now, all I ever want is to personally celebrate my daughter’s birthday once and apologize to her in person. After that, our family will leave Benwig City and live elsewhere. We won’t disturb Victoria anymore; we’ll start a small business and quietly live out the rest of our lives.”

“Are you sure you’ve thought it through?” Calvin narrowed his eyes, sizing up his second son.

Darell had always been more calculating than Hector. Take Sirena, for example; her single–minded desire to marry into a wealthy, powerful family instead of learning how to run a business, Calvin had once believed it was largely because of Darell.

Whenever Sirena complained about the hardships of learning, Darell would cover for her. And if it were exposed, he would willingly take the punishment in her place. This indulgence might appear to be affection, but in reality, it only did her harm, Calvin thought.

Later, when it came to his own daughter, Angelica, Darell did the same. He indulged his two sons in doting on her without any limits, never setting boundaries.

Calvin narrowed his eyes and nodded. “Alright.”

Darel! was surprised at how quickly Calvin agreed. He had prepared a long speech, but none of it was needed now. “Really? So I can actually attend Victoria’s birthday party tomorrow?” Darell asked, somewhat in disbelief.

“Yes, you can.” Calvin nodded.

Sirena immediately asked, “Dad, what about me? Can I go back home, too?”

Calvin nodded. “Yes, you can. Hector’s not as free as he used to be; he’s busy running both Binder Medical and Springrise Technologies. I’m all alone in the house these days, and am really lonely. It’d be nice to have you around.”

Sirena was overjoyed and couldn’t help but exchange a look with Darell. Calvin’s expression turned serious nd asked, “So now, can you tell me the Clark family’s business secrets about Binder Medical?”

Sirena said. “Nathan’s recently been researching a banned drug that is only intended for use within certain overseas sectors of the Clark family that fall outside regulatory jurisdiction.

“However, they don’t have a suitable production line abroad, so they’ve set their sights on Binder Medical for manufacturing.”

Calvin’s gaze darkened. Darell said, “Dad, Hector’s just started running Binder Medical. There might be some loose ends, and Nathan might use that to his advantage.”

“So you want to help your brother?” Calvin asked.

Darell gave a wry smile. “Of course, I want to do my part for Binder Medical, but I know neither you nor Hector would be willing to give me that chance now.”

“That’s why I said I’ve thought it through. Sirena’s already filled you in on all the business secrets. As for how to guard against it, I’m sure Hector’s got it covered.

“Dad, maybe give him a heads–up to double–check if anyone’s tampering with the products coming out of Binder Medical,” Darell continued.

Seeing Darell’s genuine concern about Binder Medical, Calvin nodded. “Alright, got it.” He then slowly stood up and said, “Tomorrow, you two can come home for Victoria’s birthday party.”

Back in the car, Calvin let out a sigh. “Milton, why are my son and daughter so stubborn?”

Milton, in the driver’s seat, glanced at Calvin in the rearview mirror and said, “Maybe they really do want to turn over a new

leaf.”

Calvin gave a wry smile. “Milton, you said it yourself, ‘maybe. But how likely is that, really?” Milton fell silent.

Calvin sighed again. “At this rate, my second son has become so extreme that he might even turn on me, an old man” He shook his head. “Forget it. I’ve already given them a chance. If they remain stubborn, they’ll have to reap what they sow.”

“Why was Dad so easy to convince today? He gave in so fast,” Sirena remarked, feeling strange.

Darell thought it was strange, too, but he figured his secret deal with Nathan remained intact, so he wasn’t worried. “Maybe seeing you so down made him feel guilty,” he said.

Sirena clenched her teeth, her voice dripping with hatred. “If he really felt guilty, he wouldn’t have treated us so harshly! I swear. I’ll never forgive him, never!”

Darell’s gaze turned dark and sinister. He felt the same way, his heart full of resentment.

“The moment I get the chance to return to the Binder family and snatch back the inheritance from that ungrateful brat, Victoria, the first thing I’ll do is make sure he stays bedridden for good, rotting away in bed waiting for his death, he thought to himself.

As soon as Darell and Sirena got back to their rented apartment, Curtis, who had just returned from picking out a gift with Simon, rushed over, grinning from ear to ear. “Dad, Aunt Sirena, you’re back! I’ve got some great news for you!”
