“I’ll try them first. If I really start seeing little fairies, give me one of these pills,” Victoria said, pulling a bottle out of the medicine kit and giving it a little shake.

Victoria was a brilliant doctor, but when it came to mushroom poisoning, she didn’t have much hands–on experience. Still, that didn’t dampen her determination to try the mushrooms herself.

Jackson glanced at the bottle in her hand, a faint smile appearing on his lips. “Alright,” he replied gently.

With Jackson’s approval. Victoria started eating to her heart’s content. She picked up the mushrooms and tasted them one by one, savoring their unique flavor. She couldn’t help but exclaim, “These mushrooms are so delicious!”

After eating. Victoria suddenly saw a bunch of colorful little fairies dancing before her eyes, fluttering around and inviting her to join their play. She excitedly pointed at them and shouted to Jackson, “Jack, look! How come you turned into a smurf?

So cute!”

Seeing Victoria waving her arms and jumping around, Jackson couldn’t help but laugh. At the same time, he thought she looked incredibly cute.

Victoria was completely immersed in her fantasy world. She pointed at the clearing around them and exclaimed in surprise, “Why are there so many flowers here? They’re so beautiful!”

Looking at her, Jackson thought to himself, ‘Looks like she’s feeling the effects of those mushrooms now.

Just as he was thinking that, Victoria suddenly reached out and pinched his cheek, muttering, “Wow, this little fairy’s face is so tender! It feels so nice…” Jackson looked helpless, but he could only let her pinch his face as much as she wanted.

After quite a while, Victoria finally seemed to have played enough. Jackson followed her instructions and tipped a pill out of the wooden bottle. The pill was jet black, with a faint herbal aroma wafting from it.

Jackson carefully picked it up and gently slipped it into Victoria’s mouth. But Victoria seemed reluctant to take it. She clamped her lips shut, stubbornly refusing to swallow no matter how Jackson tried to coax her.

Jackson suddenly had a bright idea. He leaned in and coaxed her gently, “The little fairy just gave you a magic candy. If you swallow it right now, you’ll turn into a cute little fairy just like them.”

Victoria’s eyes lit up instantly, and she squealed with excitement, “Yay!” She sat up straight, opened her mouth without a second thought, and swallowed the pill.

Not long after she swallowed the pill, Victoria’s blank, glassy stare cleared up, and her eyes regained clarity. She blinked in confusion. “Did I just have a hallucination?”

Jackson nodded and replied, “Yeah.” He then asked with concern, “How are you feeling now? Any discomfort?”

Victoria pulled a silver needle from the medicine kit and inserted it into an acupoint on her head. She then chuckled, shaking her head in disbelief. “These mushrooms‘ effects are really intense. Seriously, don’t simply try this at home.”

She then paused and turned to Jackson. “There are still some mushrooms left. Do you want to try some too?”

Jackson grinned. “Yeah.”

There weren’t many mushrooms left, so after Jackson finished them, he just felt a bit lightheaded, without the trippy visions Victoria had Victoria gave him a pill to help him snap out of it.

After eating, Victoria started treating Jackson.

When she was done, she gently squeezed his knee and asked, “I told you to try standing on your leg earlier. How does it feel now? Are you able to hold yourself up?”

Jackson nodded and said, “I can, but it’s pretty painful.”

Victoria nodded in understanding and comforted him. “That’s normal. After all, you aren’t injured for long, so it’ll take some time to heal. By the end of December, you should be walking around just fine.

“For now, keep practicing getting up with your crutches every day. If you feel okay, try moving forward a step or two, but

take it slow.”

“Alright, I get it,” Jackson said, giving Victoria a gentle look. He spoke softly, “Vickie, happy birthday.”

Victoria was a little surprised, then looked up at him with a smile. “Didn’t you already say it last night?”

Jackson grinned. “I just wanted to tell you again in person. Happy birthday.”

Victoria felt a warm rush in her heart. She looked at Jackson and smiled. “So, Jack, what did you get me for my birthday?*

Jackson didn’t answer her directly. Instead, he said, “Annie told me that Gavin was planning to give you shares in his father’s food delivery business as a birthday present.”

“Yeah, that’s what I heard too. But the deal was, I’d have to break off our engagement and get engaged to him instead,” Victoria replied.

Since Gavin started pursuing her, he had been willingly spending every dollar he made from his food delivery job on Victoria. He barely spent a cent on himself; he saved it all up to buy her gifts instead. But Victoria refused to accept them and returned most of the pricey gifts to him.

Jackson said, “Honestly, as a fellow man, even I think he’s quite brave.”

“You worried I might fall for him?” Victoria teased.

“If you really did, I’d give you an even better offer to make you stay with me,” Jackson said with conviction.

Victoria raised an eyebrow. “If that’s the case, wouldn’t you think I’m just money–minded?”

“Who isn’t tempted by money in this world? If the woman I like isn’t into money, then all the money I make wouldn’t really make me competitive,” Jackson said with a relaxed smile. “I wouldn’t dare to associate with those so–called lofty people who claim to despise money like it’s dirt.”

Victoria stared at him, that confident face of his, and said, “Relax, you’ve still got plenty of competitiveness. Rich girls like me love a good–looking guy.”

Jackson cracked up at her straightforwardness. “Guess my top priority from now on isn’t making money, but taking care of my face.”

“Well, not quite. Without money, how are you supposed to maintain your good looks? So yeah, money’s still essential.” Victoria pointed out, straight to the point.

After the banter, Jackson asked, “So, what’s your plan for tonight’s birthday party? How are you going to handle Nathan and Darell’s scheme?”

“It’s very simple,” Victoria said, laying out her plan. “I’ve got someone tailing Julia. If she’s in danger, they’ll step in and save her, then nab that pro hitman Nathan brought in from Zorovnia.

“When the whole thing falls apart, Nathan will definitely throw Darell under the bus. Basically, this is our chance to send 2/3
