“Ms. Vaughn, do you have an invitation? Without one, I can’t let you in.” Having received Hector’s instructions, Alonso, who had been waiting just inside the door for Julia, asked deliberately.

Julia pointed her finger toward the door, her voice dripping with arrogance when she asked, “My husband and son are already inside. Why would I need an invitation?”

Alonso switched on the walkie–talkie so Hector could hear everything, then said sternly to Julia, “Then you should ask yourself, why did your husband and sons all get invitations from Miss Binder for her birthday party, but you’re the only one who didn’t?”

Julia retorted confidently. “That’s because I wasn’t home earlier.”

Of course, that wasn’t the real reason. After Mara released her, she thought about heading straight to the rented apartment to find her husband, Darell, and son, Curtis.

But when she got there, she overheard Curtis and Darell excitedly talking about Victoria’s birthday party inside. No one even cared where she had been all this time after she went missing.

In the end, afraid she’d blow her cover in front of her husband and son, Julia decided to leave and crash at her parents‘ place for the night. Of course, her family didn’t miss a chance to mock and sneer at her the whole time.

“Honestly, we had no idea what to get you, so each of us went to the church in the village, taking turns to pray for you. We then got this amulet; may it keep you safe and bring you happiness in everything you do.”

“Typical villagers, so cheapskate, only giving her an amulet!” Angelica sneered, watching the villagers make such a big deal out of their gift to Victoria. Her jealousy finally eased up a bit.

“That’s it?‘ Angelica thought. ‘Much ado about nothing. Is that even a gift?‘ she scoffed inwardly.

Back when it was her birthday, Simon, Curtis, and the others would always shower her with limited–edition bags, designer clothes, and expensive jewelry. Just a lousy amulet? Who would even bother giving that?‘ Angelica thought, rolling her eyes.

Just then, Lexi let out a mocking laugh and said, “You really have no idea what you’re looking at, do you? Do you even know who made that amulet the villagers gave her?”

Seeing Angelica stunned, she continued, “Let me give you a quick lesson. It was Master Whitmore who made the amulet. Do you know who Master Whitmore is? He’s the number one metaphysics master in the country; his divinations are astonishingly accurate.

“Many people would pay a fortune but still be unable to get a reading from him, let alone obtain an amulet he personally made. It’s absolutely effective for warding off misfortune and evil spirits. You could even say his amulet is worth at least 30 million dollars each.

“Don’t tell me you seriously think the gifts you received previously can compare to this amulet, do you? A pheasant will never become a phoenix; you’re really not on that level.” With that, Lexi turned away, her gaze cold and dismissive.

Angelica felt as if she were being flayed alive, every word cutting deep. Zachary said, “Ms. Lowe, you’re really knowledgeable. Angelica’s just a country bumpkin; she could never compare to you.”

Angelica’s blood ran cold. She was obviously furious, but she forced herself to pout and act all hurt, saying, “Zachary, how could you say that? I’m really upset now.”

Zachary pinched her cheek and said, “I’ll make it up to you tonight.”

“No, you’re now nothing but a chick,” Lexi scoffed, watching Angelica shamelessly try to please Zachary. She gave her a look of utter disdain, then focused on the screen, ignoring her completely.

Angelica shot Lexi a venomous glare. ‘Lexi, who do you think you are, acting all high and mighty? Aren’t you just using your body to latch onto Nathan? Do you really believe you’re Nathan’s true love, do you?‘ she scoffed inwardly.

‘After I deal with Victoria, Lexi’s next!‘ Angelica thought, already scheming her next move.

“Whew, Jackson, I thought they gave her a diamond ring!” Annie said, patting her chest, looking a bit nervous.

Jackson glanced at her and teased, “What, did you get her a diamond ring or something?”

Annie quickly shook her head, then suddenly seemed to realize something and blurted out, “Wait, Jackson, you’re not actually giving Victoria a diamond ring or anything, are you?”

Jackson chuckled and said, “Even Gavin’s going all out, planning to give Vickie the shares his dad left him. No way I’d give her just a diamond ring”

Annie nodded, suddenly getting it. “That makes sense,” she said. Then, as if a thought suddenly struck her, Annie asked curiously, “Jackson, are you actually planning to give Victoria the entire family estate as a gift?”

After all, to outdo Gavin’s sincerity, the only thing would be shares in the Thornton Group or the family estate, she thought.
