At the mention of the big shot backing him, Nathan’s fear surged. He jumped to his feet. “Victoria, just how much do you really know?”

Victoria shot Nathan a contemptuous look. “All you need to know is, I know way more than

think.”

Nathan let out a bitter laugh. “Victoria, if you already know who the big shot behind the Clark family is, how do you even dare to mess with us? You actually think you can bring him down?”

“I’ll admit, I underestimated you at first. That’s why I’m in this mess now. But no matter how clever you are, do you really think you can take on the big shot backing me?” he shouted.

“Ha! You really don’t know your place!”

With that, Nathan felt he had nothing to fear from Victoria anymore.

Nathan staggered to his feet, his eyes bloodshot. He stared hard at Victoria’s delicate but icy face, as if trying to see just how many tricks she still had up her sleeve.

“Victoria…” His voice was hoarse, like a demon crawling out of hell. “You think taking down the Clark family means you’ve won? That big shot could wipe you out with just a flick of his finger. You wouldn’t even have a grave to be buried in!”

Victoria sneered, idly spinning a silver needle between her fingers, the needle glinting in the light.

“Oh? Take a guess. Why do you think I dared to take on the Clark family?” She walked deliberately closer, her boots crushing Nathan’s shadow. “Because… I’m here for the big shot you keep talking about.”

Nathan’s eyes widened, his heart thundering in his chest.

With that, Victoria strode over to Darell, grabbed him by the collar, and hauled him up. “Time to take you to the station.”

Annie opened the car door and waved. “Victoria, I’ll drive you to the station!”

After witnessing Victoria’s methods, Darell realized resistance was pointless. He just gave up, like a beaten dog, and let Victoria drag him away.

After Victoria left, Nathan wiped the dust and blood from his face.

He then stumbled back into the house.

Miranda wasn’t in the living room.

The butler, who had been waiting, glanced at Nathan’s injuries and lowered his eyes. “Mrs. Clark is in the hall. She said to go find her there when you got back.”

Nathan washed his face and changed into fresh clothes before making his way to the Clark family’s hall,

Inside the Clark family’s hall, the lingering scent couldn’t mask the air of decay and decline that hung over the place.

Standing before Miranda, Nathan found himself at a loss for words.

Miranda was praying, then her gaze lingered on her battered grandson. She remained silent, letting the tension hang in the

air.

Suddenly, Miranda stopped.

She turned to the butler and said, “Call Geoffrey over.”

Nathan’s face flickered with emotion, but he stayed silent.

The butler lingered for a moment, waiting to see if Miranda would change her mind, then finally turned and left the hall

Before long, Geoffrey Clark, the son of Sirena and Bater, arrived with the butler.

Geoffrey flashed a radiant smile, looking just like a pure–hearted, innocent big kid.

As soon as he walked in, he strode over to Miranda with a cheerful grin.

“Grandma! Nathan!” he called out, grinning from ear to ear. “I’m back!”

Hearing him call her “Grandma,” Miranda’s heart melted completely; the coldness on her face vanished, replaced by a gentle, loving smile. “Geoffrey, come here and let Grandma take a good look at you.”

Geoffrey came over without hesitation, letting Miranda stroke his hair as he playfully whined, “Grandma, I missed you so much while I was overseas.”

“Grandma missed you, too,” Miranda replied, her face softened with affection.

“By the way… Nathan, I heard the Clark family’s been having some trouble lately?” Geoffrey said, feigning concern as he looked at Nathan. “Want me to lend a hand?”

Nathan forced a smile. “No need. You just got back–just relax for now.”

Geoffrey still didn’t look convinced. He glanced up at Miranda. “Grandma, are you sure there’s nothing I can help with?”

Miranda’s words caught in her throat, and she changed her mind, saying instead, “It’s nothing, really. I just haven’t seen you in so long, and now that you’re back, I just want to look at you a little more.”

Geoffrey grinned. “Grandma, don’t worry. Now that I’m back from studying abroad, I’m going to work with Nathan from now on. I’m not leaving the country again.”

Then, with a curious look, he asked, “Grandma, I do miss my mom…but since she betrayed Dad, no matter how much I miss her, I just can’t bring myself to forgive her.”

Miranda kept her expression calm. “Sweetheart, if you really miss your mom, I can let her come back to visit you.”

“No need, Grandma. I’m an adult now. I’m not a little kid who needs his mom all the time.” Geoffrey said. “Grandma. I’ve already graduated. When will you arrange for me to start working with Nathan?”

“Alright, I’ll set it up for you to start working with your brother soon,” Miranda said, turning to Nathan with a serious look “Nathan, you heard me. right?”

Nathan snapped back to reality. “Alright.”

After watching Geoffrey walk out. Nathan opened his mouth to speak, but thought better of it.

Miranda finally broke the silence. “I know what you’re about to say.”

She sat quietly for a while, then let out a deep sigh. “Forget it. At my age, there’s no point in forcing myself to keep going In time I let you and Geoffrey take over.”

Nathan looked up, meeting Miranda’s eyes, clouded with age, but sharp with malice.

Miranda’s voice turned icy cold. “Nathan, I have only one request–make sure Victoria is dead. Kill her for me!

Nathan nodded solemnly. “Grandma, I swear I’ll avenge you, even if I have to walk over her dead body.”

“Victoria must die,” Miranda said, her words laced with deep hatred. “She destroyed the Clark family’s legacy built over a hundred years. I want blood for blood!”

Nathan clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white. “Don’t worry, Grandma. Tonight, I’ll reach out to the big shot… As long as he agrees to make a move, Victoria won’t be able to make any waves in Benwig.”

Miranda closed her eyes and let out a slow breath. “Alright, Nathan. Can I really trust you this time?”
