Chapter 417

Chapter 417

“Why are you so worked up?” Felix had just wrapped up a small press conference and returned to his office. Hearing Xavier’s anxious tone, Felix was noticeably more composed,

“I’ve already arranged for someone to forge a vehicle maintenance record from those days for Jackson’s mother, Chloe. The record makes it look like Gerry secretly ordered some tampering with Chloe’s car’s brake system.”

There was a brief silence on the other end before Xavier asked, “Are you sure Gary will buy it?”

Felix leaned back in his chair, picked up a pricey pen from his desk, and let out a confident chuckle. “Gary’s not exactly a brainiac, and he’s always been hot-headed.

“If he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have gone so far back then, killing someone so viciously just to get revenge for Chloe. Honestly, Gary would rather take out by mistake than let even one person who might’ve hurt his benefactor slip through his fingers.”

He span the pen between his fingers and went on, “I’ve already got the plan sorted out, same as always. As for how Gary finds out, that’s your job. I’ll have someone deliver the stuff to you in secret tonight.”

“Got it,” Xavier replied.

After hanging up, Xavier’s nerves finally settled. He remembered that Gerry’s study was full of important documents.

All he needed to do was slip Felix’s forged evidence into the study, then set things up so Gary would discover it without suspecting anything.

After hanging up, Xavier’s nerves finally settled. Felix is so damn cunning!’ Xavier thought. ‘Once Jackson’s gone, I’ll just go straight for Felix; no more tricks, just hit him hard.’

As night settled in, the manor was cloaked in darkness. Ollie parked the car in the garage, got out, and headed to the back seat, ready to help Jackson get out. But Jackson said, “I can handle it myself. Just support me.”

Ollie’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Sure thing, Mr. Thornton.”

With Ollie steadying him, Jackson placed his new cane on the ground, then asked Ollie to let go. Leaning fully on the cane, he slowly put his foot down.

Ollie stood close by, careful and alert, ready to step in if Jackson stumbled. Jackson was actually able to support himself and get out of the car with the

though his legs still hurt and felt weak,

Ollie’s hands and his whole body were trembling with excitement as he helped Jackson. “That’s fantastic! Mr. Thornton, you can really stand steady now!” Ollie exclaimed.

The bodyguard quickly set the wheelchair next to Jackson. Jackson gripped the armrest and, leaning on it, slowly made his way out of the car.

Even just that took a lot out of him. But still, it was a big deal.

Even Jackson, usually so calm, looked a little excited. “Yeah”

Not long after they started walking, Jackson ran into Cary, who was just about to clock out for the day. He lifted a hand to signal Ollie to stop, then greeted Gary with a friendly. “Gary, how’s work been treating you lately?

Gary started to sign something, but quickly remembered Jackson couldn’t read sign language. So he pulled out his phone. typed a quick message, and handed it over for Jackson to see.

[It’s fine.]

Then he typed again and handed the phone back to Jackson: [Have you found Donald yet?]

Jackson read the message and shook his head. “Still nothing for now.”

Gary lowered his gaze, a flicker of disappointment in his eyes. He didn’t say anything else, just put his phone away, nodded at Jackson, and walked off.

Ollie glanced back at Gary’s retreating figure and said quietly, “The staff says Gary’s just been doing his job, nothing out of the ordinary. Since he can’t really talk to people, he hasn’t asked anyone else about Mr. Thornton.”

Ollie added, “The only time he did something unusual was the night Xavier came to question you. That night, Gary didn’t head home right away; he stayed late at the office.”

Jackson said, “Time’s running out. With the Afriska shipment getting seized here, Xavier didn’t get what he wanted. Just like Felix, those two are still looking for ways to egg Gary on to avenge my mom.”

Stephen looked at Gary, feeling a bit uncomfortable. He could see that Gary wasn’t interested in talking anymore, so he just shut up and ate quietly.

After leaving the Thornton Manor, Gary got on his battered bike and rode away.

The bike creaked as it moved through the silent streets, the sound echoing in the night. Under the streetlights, Gary’s silhouette looked lonely and forlorn, as if the whole world had faded away except for him.

When he reached the house Jackson rented for him and Stephen, he parked his bike, pushed open the door, and walked in.

“Gary, you’re back,” Stephen called out. He was focused on practicing his lines, but when he heard the door open, he looked up at the door.

Gary nodded, his face blank, but his eyes carried a weariness words couldn’t describe. “Dinner’s ready, Stephen said, putting his script down and walking over to the table.

Gary nodded again and headed to the kitchen in silence to wash his hands. His movements were sluggish, like even something as simple as this took effort.

Once he finished, Gary sat down at the table. On the table were two simple dishes: tomato beef and boiled vegetables. They were nothing fancy, just regular home cooking, but they looked delicious.

Stephen hesitated for a moment, then finally spoke up, “Gary, you’ve been working at the Thornton family for a few days now. Have you had any contact with Mr. Thornton yet?” He’d been wanting to ask this for a while, but only now managed to say it.

Gary shook his head, not mentioning what he’d overheard Xavier say. He knew Stephen still preferred to believe what Jackson said.

Whatever. Gary had already decided; he’d be the one to avenge his benefactor, Chloe, all by himself. He didn’t want Jackson to have blood on his hands.

He’d already killed before, so he didn’t care about getting his hands dirty again, falling deeper into the darkness didn’t

bother him.

Stephen asked again, “Gary, are you hiding something from me on purpose?”

At that, Gary paused with his fork, then set it down and started signing: [Aren’t you hiding something from me, too? What was your real reason for going to Ms. Binder’s birthday party? Did you really think I didn’t know?]

Stephen was caught off guard, then said, “Gary, I’m just worried you might act rashly without knowing what’s really going

on”

Gary continued signing: [Relax. You’re my benefactor’s son. I won’t get you involved.]

Stephen said urgently, “Gary, it’s not that I’m afraid you’ll get me in trouble. I just don’t want to lose you.”

Gary froze for a second, then finally signed: [Enough. Let’s not talk about this anymore, let’s just eat.]

He grabbed his fork and started digging in, shoveling food into his mouth like he hadn’t eaten in days. ‘Gotta fill up, so I’ll have the strength to get my revenge when the time comes, Gary thought.

Stephen was quiet for a moment, but couldn’t hold back. “Gary, I asked Jackson to get you a job at the Thornton family so

could close to Mr. Thornton. you

get

“To get a better sense of what kind of person he really is, and figure out if he really had anything to do with my mom’s death. I just want us both to make sure we’re careful about this.”

Gary nodded and kept eating. They finished the meal in silence. Gary put down his fork and went straight to his room. Stephen quietly cleared the table, washed the dishes, then picked up his script and headed back to his own room. The room was overflowing with clothes, shoes, and piles of health supplements; there was barely any space left.

He was just about to sit down and relax when his phone suddenly rang, cutting through the quiet. He glanced at the screen, and Jackson’s name was flashing.
