Felix met Gerry’s gaze. For a split second, panic flashed across his face, but he quickly regained his

composure.

He glanced at the phone strapped to the drone and noticed that Gary hadn’t pressed the button. Instead, Gary picked up a stylus and scribbled on the tablet: [I don’t buy it. Why are you doing this?]

[Trying to stall? Useless.

[The car can’t be stopped. Even if you call the police, they’ll never make it in time.

[It only takes a second to blow everything up!]

Gary’s eyes were bloodshot, ready to risk everything and slam the red button. Felix shouted, “I wanted you to kill my grandfather and pin it on Jackson!”

Seeing Gary waver, Felix pressed on, “I know you don’t believe me, but just let me finish before you decide whether to push it or not.”

Gary gritted his teeth. “Fine, I’ll give you five minutes!”

Then Felix spilled everything, laying out his plan in full detail.

It all kicked off with that package he sent to Stephen. After that, he made sure Xavier took Donald out of the country just so Stephen and Gary would start doubting Jackson and turn against him.

In the end, he faked evidence to make Gary believe even more that Gerry was the one who killed Chloe.

Felix spilled his plan because he figured if he died here, everything he’d worked for would be for nothing.

But if he survived, the worst that could happen was losing his spot as the Thornton family heir.

He knew which was the better deal. So, Felix went all in.

Of course, he threw Xavier under the bus, too.

Xavier didn’t even try to argue. After all, compared to losing his spot as the Thornton family heir, he was way more scared of actually dying in that car.

As Felix laid out all the details, Gary realized every word matched what he’d been through. He sank to the floor, crushed and overwhelmed.

Felix said, “Do you believe me now? This was all me, every bit of it was my plan. If you really press button, you’d just end up killing the wrong guy.”

“What the heck just happened? How did the car stop out of nowhere?” Donald asked, his voice still shaky.

Felix’s stomach dropped. In that instant, he finally got it. He and Xavier had been outsmarted by Jackson from beginning to end.

Victoria’s car, which had been tailing them, pulled up and stopped a short distance ahead.

Then, Victoria and Jackson got out of the car.

Victoria walked over to the driver’s side, grinning at the three in the back seat. “Hey there, you three! Bet you didn’t expect that, huh?”

Donald finally realized what was going on. “Wair, was all of that just a setup? No way… I saw it myself! The driver floored the brakes, but the car wouldn’t stop!”

Jackson shrugged and explained, “That’s because this ride’s got a brand–new emergency assist system from the electric car company. If things get dangerous, it’ll slam the brakes for you automatically.”

Donald was stunned. “Then… what about him?”

He pointed at the phone screen on the windshield, where Gary looked like he’d lost all hope. “What’s his deal? Was he part of your whole setup, too?”

Just then, another face popped up on the screen, Ollie.

Donald’s eyes went wide when he saw Ollie.

Jackson explained, “Gary wasn’t actually part of our setup. He just gave me a chance to prove Grandpa was innocent in my mom’s death.

“If I failed, Gary would have still blown up the car.

“Of course, I did trick Gary. With Ollie there, there was no way he could actually trigger the explosion.”

Gerry hadn’t said a word the whole time, because he had no idea what Jackson was planning.

He only knew that Felix and Xavier were trying to use Gary to go after him.

But he was completely unaware that Jackson had arranged for Felix, Xavier, and Donald to be in his car today.

That was why he wanted to know what Jackson was really up to.

It wasn’t until the drone showed up and Gary threatened to blow up the car that Gerry finally realized what Jackson was up to. He was forcing Felix and Xavier to admit what they’d done.

Jackson said, his tone flat, “Honestly, I’m even more surprised you and Xavier would use Grandpa as a pawn, all just for the Thornton family inheritance.”

Felix let out a sarcastic laugh. “All for the Thornton family heir position? For you, it’s always within reach, so of course you don’t care. But we’ve always been stuck with your leftovers.

“Why? We’re all his grandsons. Why do you get almost all of the Thornton family’s fortune, bask in the spotlight, while we work our asses off only for you to swoop in and snatch the fruits of our labor?”

Xavier jumped in, “Grandpa, can you honestly say you didn’t have to fight tooth and nail against your own siblings to become the Thornton family heir?”

Gerry couldn’t help but laugh at himself. “Yeah, but I never thought you’d be even more ruthless than I was back then. We fought like hell, but none of us ever even dreamed of taking out our own parents or grandparents.”

He grew serious. “You should be grateful to Jackson. If you’d actually pulled this off, trust me, you two would be spending the rest of your lives behind bars.”

With that, he pushed the door open and stepped out. His figure seemed tired and defeated as he walked away.

Victoria immediately waved at Gerry. “Let me drive you to pick up Jackson’s little brother. My car’s perfectly fine, you can trust it.”

Gerry couldn’t help but smile at her sunny smile, like nothing ever happened. “Alright, guess I’ll trouble you, kiddo.”

Once they were in Victoria’s car, Gerry gazed out the window and spoke with heartfelt gravity, “Jackson, I’m leaving everything else to you. I’ll take care of picking up your brother and bringing him home.”

Jackson nodded. “Alright.”

From the look of things, Gerry had finally decided to put Jackson in charge. Victoria shot Jackson a playful grin. “Jack, go do your thing. Leave Gerry to me.”

Jackson gave a lighthearted smile. “Alright, but Vickie, Grandpa’s getting up there in years, and he just survived a high–speed life–or–death ordeal. Make sure you drive steady, okay?”

Victoria grinned. “You got it.”

But then, she turned to Gerry with a mischievous grin. “Hold on tight, I drive a little wild!”

With that, she floored the gas, and the car roared off down the road. Everyone was speechless.
