With that thought, Angelica rushed up to Julia, her eyes brimming with tears as she looked up. “Mom, if you want to punish someone, punish me. I know Curtis only did this because he wanted to stand up for me in this family.
“It’s all my fault. I’m not even a Binder anymore, but I still foolishly tried to compete with Victoria for recognition.”
Curtis couldn’t stand seeing his beloved sister so wronged. He lifted his head, moved past his mother, and stepped up beside Angelica, facing Calvin with a look of determination.
He said, “Grandpa, this has nothing to do with Angelica. She had no idea what I was planning. It was all my idea. I just couldn’t stand seeing her keep getting hurt since Victoria came back. If you want to punish someone, punish me.”
Angelica shook her head, her eyes red and voice choked with emotion. “Curtis, you don’t have to take all the blame. If it weren’t for me, you never would’ve asked Leslie to do something like this.”
Curtis’s eyes were red as he said, “Angelica, I told you, this has nothing to do with you.”
with.”
Then, with unwavering resolve, he added, “Grandpa, I’ll take the punishment. Just please, don’t take it out on Angelica.”
Calvin let out a cold snort. “You’re such an idiot. Even now, you’re still standing up for that girl you grew up
Curtis squared his shoulders. “Grandpa, I did this, so I’ll take the blame. Angelica had nothing to do with it.”
“You dare talk back?” Calvin snapped, his anger boiling over as he hurled his cane at Curtis.
Curtis didn’t dodge. He just stood his ground and took the blow head–on.
Julia was beside herself with worry for her son. She was about to rush over, but Darell grabbed her arm and said sharply, “Leave him alone. He brought this on himself.”
Julia knew that, no matter what happened, Calvin had to put on a show to prove his authority. All she could do was stomp her foot in frustration, shooting a resentful glare at Victoria, blaming her for what had happened to Curtis.
When he saw that Curtis took the hit without flinching, a bruise already swelling on his forehead, a flicker of concern flashed in Calvin’s eyes. He turned to Victoria, looking conflicted. “Victoria, how do you want to handle this?”
Victoria raised an eyebrow, half–joking. “How about we kick Curtis out of the Binder family tree, just as Mr. Thornton suggested?”
As soon as she said that, Darell’s face turned stormy, his eyes cold and menacing.
Calvin frowned slightly, clearly not thrilled with her suggestion.
Victoria knew perfectly well that, no matter how annoyed Calvin was with Curtis, he’d never actually cut his grandson off over something that was neither a big deal nor trivial.
Compared to Curtis, the grandson Calvin had watched grow up for over twenty years, Victoria, the granddaughter who had just returned, would never measure up in his eyes.
“Forget it. Curtis messed up, so he deserves to be punished, but let Darell handle it. Tonight’s my welcome party, and I don’t want to blow things up and ruin everyone’s mood,” Victoria said. She knew it wasn’t the time to press her advantage, so she backed off.
After all, she’d already gotten what she wanted.

With the Binder family backing him. Cassian figured he’d have no trouble putting Jackson under his heel for good.
Once the drama was over, Daisy spotted some new guests arriving outside the venue.
“Hector, it’s the Fairbank family,” she said.
Hector nodded and walked over with her to greet the last guests to arrive.
Gavin had his hands shoved in his pockets, clearly annoyed and showing zero interest in being at the welcome party.
He was only here because his father, Preston Fairbank, made him come, so he just went through the motions, exchanging perfunctory pleasantries with Hector and Daisy, the couple.
But he heard a voice he knew all too well coming from the center of the venue, and suddenly perked up, all his boredom vanishing in an instant.
After sorting out the dress drama, Victoria gathered up her gown and stepped to the front of the room, flashing a confident smile. “Tonight’s my big welcome back to the Binder family.
“Sure we had a little excitement earlier, but it’s all taken care of now. So please, eat, drink, and enjoy yourselves. I’ve got some fun surprises lined up for everyone who came out to support me tonight!”
