Jackson’s gaze grew a shade darker as he spoke slowly, “I didn’t want to suspect Cassian before, and there was no need to. But now, I do have some doubts. I’ve already asked Ollie to look into it.”
At this, Jackson paused for a moment, then shot a glance at Gavin, who was brooding in the corner with a drink. “Victoria, your ex has been watching you ever since he walked in.”
Victoria glanced over.
Sure enough, Gavin was fixing her with an intense gaze.
Back then, Gavin was just some broke guy, always wearing bargain–bin clothes or off–brand stuff.
But now, he was a different man. That custom–tailored suit really brought out his looks.
Victoria looked away, unconcerned. “Who cares? If he tries to cause trouble in front of me, I’ll just toss him out.”
Noticing Jackson’s gaze, Gavin raised his glass toward him, a taunting glint in his eyes.
Jackson’s gaze grew darker, but he just gave a faint smile and stayed silent.
Ever since he lost the use of his legs, people really thought they could show him disrespect.
And now Gavin, who’d only just been brought back into the rich family, was getting cocky right in front of him, blatantly making a move on his fiancée.
Jackson wasn’t in any rush. He’d let them have their fun for now. Later, he’d put every single one of them in their place.

After leaving the venue, Angelica, her eyes rimmed with red, said, “Curtis, that slap from Dad must’ve hurt, right?”
Curtis rubbed the corner of his mouth, his eyes full of resentment. “It didn’t hurt, not one bit. What I feel is pure hatred— hate that I got played by that wild girl Victoria again!”
Angelica said, feeling down, “Curtis, seeing you and Simon get knocked back again and again because of me… I really feel bad about it.
“Just forget it, you guys don’t need to fight for me anymore. From now on, I’ll just play it safe and stay out of her way.”
“Angelica, don’t say stuff like that. You’ve been the family’s darling for twenty years. Why should you have to take her crap just because Victoria came back? No way!” Curtis snapped. “You don’t have to give in. I’m not letting her get away with it!”
Angelica’s voice trembled. “Curtis…”
Curtis gently brushed away her tears. “Angelica, don’t be sad. I promise you, as long as I’m here, I won’t let Victoria bully you ever again!”
Back at Silverwood Villa, Simon was working from home when he noticed Curtis’s swollen lip. He closed his laptop and frowned. “Did something happen again?”
Curtis told Angelica to go change, then flopped onto the couch. “Yeah, Dad slapped me. I never expected Victoria to have some tricks up her sleeve. She actually knows the designer of that dress.
“I just don’t get it. How does a farm girl like her manage to meet such a big shot from overseas?”

“Jackson, aren’t you going to dance with the new Miss Binder?” Cassian took the opportunity and strolled over to Jackson’s wheelchair, speaking up.
Jackson shot him a cold, indifferent look.
Cassian put on an exaggerated ‘oh, right‘ face. “Almost forgot–your legs aren’t exactly made for dancing.”
Victoria, standing behind Jackson, retorted bluntly, “Seriously? If you’re not using your brain, maybe donate it to a proctologist.”
Cassian’s smile froze for a moment. “Sorry, that was careless of me.”
Victoria shrugged, sounding indifferent. “Why apologize to me? You’re the one without a brain, not me.”
Cassian just stared, lost for words.
Cassian forced a smile, holding back his annoyance. “Victoria, you’re pretty funny. You and my brother really make a good pair.”
Victoria shot back, “Obviously. If we weren’t a good match, why would I be marrying him? If I wanted someone as clueless as you, I could’ve picked you instead. But honestly, picking you would make me the real joke here.”
Cassian wasn’t about to waste any more words on her. He just turned and walked off.
Victoria curled her lip. “So dull. With that attitude, he really thinks he’s got a shot at being the Thornton heir? What a joke.”
Jackson gave a small laugh. “Yeah, no kidding.” He paused, then said, “If you want to dance, just go for it. Don’t worry about
me.”
Victoria sighed. “It’s not that I’m worried about you. Honestly, there’s just no one here I actually want to dance with. And if anyone does invite me, it’s probably just to see me make a fool of myself.”
She glanced down at Jackson with a gentle smile. “When your legs are healed, at our wedding, I promise I’ll give you a proper dance.”
Jackson smiled warmly. “I’m looking forward to that day too.”
Cassian, still fuming a little, paused before finally making his way over to Angelica. With a polite, gentlemanly smile, he asked, “Miss Binder, would you do me the honor of dancing with me?”
Angelica hesitated for a moment, then at last reached out her hand. “Alright”
Seeing this, Victoria gave Jackson a little nudge. “I don’t really want to dance, but I’m not about to let Angelica steal the spotlight at my own welcome party.”
Jackson smiled. “Go for it. This is your stage. Show her up.”
Victoria pulled out her phone and dialed Simon’s number.
Simon, who’d settled himself in a quiet corner after arriving, frowned when he saw Victoria calling. He looked over at her, not sure what game she was playing, but picked up anyway.
“Go get Curtis and tell him I want a dance,” Victoria said.
Simon’s frown grew even deeper. After a brief hesitation, he grabbed his cane and hobbled over to Curtis to relay Victoria’s
request.
