Simon didn’t get what Victoria was up to either.

“Wait, that doesn’t make sense.” Curtis finally realized. “Simon, if she’s trying to provoke me and wants to dance with me, why are you the messenger?”
Simon replied coldly, “Why do you care so much? If you’re not scared, just accept her challenge.”
“Oh, of course. I want to see what kind of game she’s playing.” Curtis said with a look of disdain as he stood up and walked over to Victoria.
Just then, the music started, and Angelica stepped onto the dance floor with Cassian, moving gracefully and catching the attention of everyone around.
“You dance so well,” Cassian complimented.
Angelica smiled. “So do you.”
“Have you noticed? There are so many guys watching you. You really stand out tonight,” Cassian continued, his praise sincere.
Angelica had grown numb to all the stares. She barely noticed them anymore.
After all, she was Benwig City’s star, the genius everyone talked about. If it weren’t for that, Gerry never would’ve handpicked her from all the rich heiresses to marry Jackson, who was supposed to be the next heir of the Thornton family.
Whenever Angelica thought about what happened to Jackson, she couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.
Back when Jackson was in his prime, there wasn’t a single person in Benwig City who could even measure up to him.
No one could even compare to Jackson in any way–looks, aura, family, or achievements.
Thinking about all this, Angelica put on a polite smile, trying to sound humble as she said, “Oh, it’s nothing. Victoria’s the real star tonight. They’re probably just looking at me because they feel sorry for me after Grandpa scolded me about the evening gown.”
Honestly, Cassian was nowhere near Jackson’s level. He just couldn’t compare.
Even if Cassian really did become the Thornton family’s heir someday, he’d probably never make much of a splash.
The more Angelica thought about it, the more jealous and unsettled she felt. She couldn’t help but regret letting Victoria marry Jackson in her place.
For a moment, Angelica wondered, ‘Maybe… even with Jackson’s legs crippled, marrying him wouldn’t have been so bad
after all?‘
Cassian noticed how half–hearted and absent–minded Angelica was, and the smile on his face gradually faded.
“Do you think it’s a pity?” he asked.
“What?” Angelica blinked, caught off guard by his sudden question.
“You were just about to marry my brother, and then he had that accident,” Cassian said, his eyes seeming to swallow her whole.

herself.
Ppp.
“See? Now Jackson can only end up with a woman like her,” Cassian murmured in Angelica’s ear.
Angelica looked away from Victoria. ‘No, I can’t let myself regret this, she thought.

She wasn’t the real heiress of the Binder family anymore. Everyone knew she was just the adopted girl. If she really married Jackson and he ever lost his power in the Thornton family, she’d have nowhere left to go.
Twenty years of effort were all wasted, just like that.
‘You’re right, Cassian. Right now, you’re the one who stands out. I’m sure you’ll be the next heir of the Thornton family, Cassian. I really believe that,” Angelica said, tilting her head up and flashing him a sweet smile.
Cassian looked satisfied with Angelica’s sudden change of heart.
Relax. Whatever glory Jackson could have brought you, I can give you all of that and more,” Cassian assured her.
Angelica kept smiling, choosing not to respond.
she’d rather keep her options open for now. There was no way she’d promise Cassian anything so easily.
Suddenly, laughter erupted from the crowd of guests.
On the dance floor, Victoria and Curtis were a complete train wreck. Victoria was all over the place, either stomping on Curtis’s feet or nearly tripping him up every other step. It was a mess, and everyone could see it.
That’s hilarious! Victoria really can’t dance at all!” someone yelled.
But honestly, even though she can’t dance, she doesn’t look nervous or shy at all. If anything, she’s actually kind of hilarious!”
Yeah, totally! I was thinking the same thing. I don’t even want to make fun of her. She’s just so interesting to watch!”
‘Honestly, I actually feel bad for Curtis. Poor guy, he’s really suffering out there.”
After being stepped on for the eighty–ninth time, and with his shoes literally falling apart, Curtis lost it.
Victoria, are you doing this on purpose?” he growled.
Victoria just rolled her eyes. “Isn’t this exactly what you wanted?”
‘What do you mean, that’s what I wanted? Don’t act like you could actually dance any better!” Curtis was so mad he could barely get the words out.
Victoria flashed a mischievous smile. “Of course, I could’ve danced perfectly if I felt like it.”
“Yeah, right. As if I’d buy that!” Curtis shot back, realizing his plan to embarrass Victoria had totally backfired. He was the one getting roasted. Annoyed and humiliated, he cut it short. “Whatever! I’m out!”
But just as Curtis was about to let go and storm off, Victoria’s steps suddenly turned light and steady–almost graceful, like she’d been hiding her real skills all along.
Curtis caught the change and furrowed his brow, matching her movements, wondering what kind of trick she was pulling
now.
