Chapter 53

Angelica had once again underestimated just how bold Victoria could be.
She really did plan to show off her skills at the welcome party and outshine Victoria.
But she never imagined it would happen in such an embarrassing way.
She was totally caught off guard when Victoria threw her right into the fire like this.

Luckily, her popularity and reputation among the elite circles in Benwig City still earned her the support of many.
“Angelica’s skills in the arts–music, chess, and painting–are the best of the best, not just in Benwig City, but across the whole country. When she represented her school in competitions, she was always either first or second place. She’s not exaggerating.”
“Yeah, Victoria’s being way too cocky, openly challenging her like that.”
“No matter how much she hates it, she just has to accept it. Angelica is the genuine article, a real talent. So what if she can dance a little? Like Angelica said, all she’s got is farming, washing clothes, and cooking meals.”
When it came to talent, Angelica always came out on top against the other heiresses her age.
Otherwise, Gerry wouldn’t have chosen her for the marriage out of all the heiresses fighting to marry Jackson.
As for Calvin, he didn’t really care anymore. Since Victoria had won Gerry’s approval, as long as Gerry kept quiet, Calvin just let Victoria do her thing.
Darell and Julia weren’t happy about it, but after the whole fiasco with Curtis’s evening gown, they didn’t dare step out of line in front of Calvin.
Curtis knew Victoria was just trying to embarrass Angelica in front of everyone, so he snorted with disdain. “What’s there to be afraid of? Angelica, show off your talents! Make her admit defeat, fair and square!”
At this point, Angelica had no choice but to accept the challenge.
If she wanted to reclaim her reputation, she had to completely outshine Victoria in every way.
Even if everyone knew the truth about her mother’s scheme, even if they realized she wasn’t the real Binder daughter, that didn’t matter.
As long as she was exceptional enough, she had every right to hold onto her place as a true heiress.
There would still be plenty of wealthy young men flocking to her, no matter what.
With that thought in mind, Angelica rose to her feet, wearing a poised smile. She nodded elegantly at Victoria. “Since you want to see, Victoria, I’ll go ahead and put on a little show, even if it’s not perfect.”
Victoria smirked, “Go on then. Let’s see just how embarrassing it gets.”

Everyone just stared in silence.
Cassian walked over to Jackson, champagne in hand, wearing a look of concern. “Jackson, that new Binder heiress is about to become your fiancée.
“At first, nobody thought she was anything special, but she managed to impress a few people with her ballroom dancing.
“And now she’s bold enough to openly challenge Angelica, Benwig City’s most famous talent. For your own reputation, you really shouldn’t just let her do whatever she wants.”
Jackson chuckled. “I never realized it before, but Victoria was right. You really are messed up in the head. Nothing’s even happened yet, and you’re already looking down on her.”
Cassian’s expression shifted, and after a moment he forced a smile. “Jackson, ever since you lost the use of your legs, your words have gotten a lot sharper.”
Jackson ran his hand over his legs, a hint of bitterness in his smile. “Yeah, just like Sibley said, after my legs were ruined, I’ve become more sensitive and suspicious.
“You’d better watch yourself around me lately. If I lose control, who knows what might happen? Even your life could be at risk. And you should warn Sibley, too.
“She used to do whatever she wanted because I had her back, but if I wanted to end her, it’d be as easy as stepping on an ant.”
Cassian’s face darkened. “Jackson, there’s no need to make it sound so serious. Sibley’s just causing a bit of drama at home, nothing serious.”
Jackson let out a sigh, a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips. “What can I say? Losing my legs twisted me up inside.”
“You really are something, Jackson,” Cassian replied, glancing at him sideways. “If your mind’s really gone off the rails, you’d better get help soon. Otherwise, Grandpa might just keep dragging out the whole succession issue.”
With that, he turned and walked away.
Jackson looked down on Cassian’s retreating back, his dark eyes turning icy as his fingers tapped quietly on the armrest of his wheelchair.
Jackson thought, ‘Cassian, you’ll soon find out what happens when ambition outgrows reason.
‘I could’ve made sure you and Sibley had it easy, living in luxury for the rest of your lives. But you just had to throw it all away and walk right into your own downfall.‘
In the center of the hall, there were all kinds of instruments set up; a grand piano, violins, cellos, guitars, a drum set, and more.
Angelica was the first to walk up to the piano. She opened the lid, selected a piece renowned worldwide for its difficulty, and played it through flawlessly from start to finish.

She sat with perfect poise, her agile fingers flying over the black and white keys, her whole demeanor as regal as a princess.
“No wonder Angelica is Benwig City’s most talented girl. That piece is insanely hard, but she played it like it was nothing.”
“Of course! She’s won more awards than we’ve ever had gourmet feasts in our lives!”
Curtis was the first to clap, calling out in praise, “Bravo! Angelica, that was amazing!”
Simon’s eyes sparkled with delight.
Julia finally let out a breath of relief, glancing at Daisy sitting opposite her. “Angelica really is the daughter I’ve poured my heart into raising. Just look at her playing the piano. That was truly a performance to remember. When it comes to grace and talent, Victoria doesn’t even hold a candle to her.”
Daisy retorted with a smirk, “Well, Jasmine risked jail to swap her own daughter, but I guess it paid off. She might be locked up now, but at least her girl is getting pampered by her aunt and showing off in style.”
Back then, Daisy was always the quiet, gentle type. She never would’ve stooped to trading barbs with Julia like this.
But now, she couldn’t stand anyone badmouthing Victoria. Even her words were quick and biting.
Motherhood really did make a woman tough.
Julia was so furious she could barely get a word out. “You…”
She spluttered for a while, but couldn’t think of anything to say back.
Finally, she snorted coldly. “Angelica is loyal and caring. Victoria, though, drops people the moment she’s unhappy. She’s clearly cold and heartless.
“No matter how good you are to her now, if things don’t go her way, she’ll just ditch you and find someone else without a second thought.”
Daisy sneered, “Seriously? What you did was downright cold–hearted. How is that just ‘slightly disappointing” Victoria? And honestly, who can say if your adopted daughter is all about feelings or just chasing after benefits?”
Julia was about to fire back, but Darell stepped in, sounding stern. “Enough. There’s no point arguing with Daisy. She’s just become a mom, so of course she’s a little emotional right now.”
Julia gave a wry smile. “True enough. Daisy never raised a kid from the very beginning, so she has no clue how much effort and love it takes. She doesn’t get why it’s so hard to let go of your own child”
That used to be Daisy’s biggest sore spot.
Whenever someone brought it up, she’d have nothing to say.
But now, Daisy didn’t have to worry about not having a child of her own. Victoria was her pride and joy.

With everyone’s eyes on her, Angelica stood up and flashed Victoria a warm smile. “Anything else you want me to play? And if you’re actually interested, I can show you how.”
She waved a hand at all the instruments around. “It’s not just the piano. I can teach you any instrument here.”
