As the music faded, the overwhelming waves that had seemed to crash right before their eyes disappeared instantly.
The guests finally came back to their senses, though the awe in their eyes still hadn’t faded.
“Unbelievable! This piece is absolutely stunning. The performance was so lifelike, it felt like I was actually there.”
“Did
you really improvise that? You’re a genius, truly gifted.”
“If you’d been born in the Renaissance, your achievements in music would rival Chopin and Beethoven.”
Gerry couldn’t help but stand up, visibly shaking with excitement.
Someone like Gerry, who had seen it all, rarely lost his composure. Yet here he was, openly praising a junior like Victoria–just went to show how mind–blowing her original piece really was.
Victoria stood up and nodded politely at Gerry. “Yes, I improvised it on the spot. I hope I didn’t make a fool of myself in front of you, Mr. Thornton.”
Gerry, still full of praise, stomped his foot, playfully frustrated. “Honestly, I wish I could just make you my granddaughter! Who needs a granddaughter–in–law anyway?”
Jackson, holding up his phone, froze for a second. He looked at his grandpa and smiled helplessly. “Grandpa, you can’t do that.”
The
guests all laughed at the banter between the grandfather and grandson.
Meanwhile, the Binder family looked utterly embarrassed.
Everyone here knew the Binders had chosen to acknowledge Angelica, their adopted daughter, instead of Victoria, their biological child. So every time Victoria shone, it was a slap in their face.
Victoria let out a playful laugh. “No worries, I can call you Grandpa Thornton right now!”
“Good!” Gerry’s face lit up the moment she called him that.
Cassian’s face darkened. He’d never seen Gerry praise any young person so highly, except for his own grandson, Jackson.
‘Who would’ve guessed the Binders‘ newly returned heiress had so much hidden talent up her sleeve?‘ Cassian thought. ‘And she’s set to marry Jackson? Could things get any better?
‘Did we really just stumble into this kind of good fortune? ‘Is this what they mean by ‘survive a disaster and blessings follow?
‘If Victoria really is this talented, then my plan to replace Jackson just got a whole lot tougher. Honestly, it all. comes down to not taking Jackson out when I had the chance.

Angelica’s face went ghostly pale. She’d lost, and not just a little. She’d been completely wiped out.
No matter how good she was, she could never match Victoria’s live improvisation and performance.
Curtis and Simon were just as stunned, standing there speechless, their faces showing a mix of shock and discomfort.
It was a mix of regret, frustration, pain, and embarrassment all rolled into one.
Angelica had thought this would be her big comeback, but instead, she ended up losing so badly, it wasn’t even close.
Victoria turned to the guests and said, “It’s getting late, so I just want to thank you all again for showing your support tonight. I hope my welcome party didn’t fall short in any way. If it did, I hope you’ll be understanding.”
Once the formalities were over, Victoria walked over to Daisy and Hector.
“Dad, Mom, I didn’t embarrass you tonight, did I?” Victoria asked with a playful smile.
“Embarrass us? You brought honor to our family!” Daisy’s eyes were already brimming with tears.
Hector teased, “Look at your mom, she’s so excited she can barely hold it together.”
Watching the touching moment between mother and daughter, Julia clutched her chest and slumped back in her chair, looking like she could barely breathe.
‘How could I not feel this way?‘ Julia thought bitterly. ‘My own daughter is dazzling everyone at her welcome party, but all the praise is going to someone else, not me, her real mother!
‘Such an incredible daughter, and she’s calling another woman ‘Mom‘!
‘If I’d known things would turn out like this, I should’ve just sidelined Angelica for a bit and made sure to claim Victoria as my own first!‘
“Alright, I should head back and start getting ready for Jackson and Victoria’s engagement party next week. We have to make sure it’s perfect,” Gerry said to Calvin, standing up.
Seeing Gerry get up, Calvin quickly said, “Victoria, please see Mr. Thornton out.”
Victoria looked over and nodded. “Sure, Mr. Thornton, let me grab something real quick. Just wait a moment.”
With everyone from the Thornton and Binder families watching her with puzzled looks, Victoria left the party.
Seeing this, Julia sighed, a bit annoyed. “Victoria, really… She said she’d see Mr. Thornton out, but now she’s off doing who knows what at a time like this.”
Gerry just smiled and shrugged. “It’s fine. I don’t mind waiting.”
After a while, Victoria came back, holding a wooden box in her hands. No one could tell what was inside.

Julia eyed the wooden box in Victoria’s hands and asked in a fake gentle voice, “Victoria, what’s that you’re holding? And you made Gerry wait just so you could fetch it?”
Her attitude was a bit too familiar, as if she was trying to cozy up to Victoria.
Daisy felt a bit uncomfortable.
Victoria glanced at Julia. “I don’t think I need to tell you what I’m holding, do I?”
Her tone made Julia feel a pang in her chest, but she forced a smile. “Oh, Victoria, why are you acting like a stranger with me?”
Victoria replied, “I’m not your daughter, so of course I should act like a stranger.” With that, she turned to Gerry. “Gerry, let me walk you out.”
Gerry nodded.
Darell and Julia quickly stood up as well. “Mr. Thornton, we’ll walk you out too.”
At the door, Gerry turned back, his eyes full of satisfaction as he looked at Victoria. “That rascal Jackson really isn’t as full of himself as I thought. His taste is better than mine!”
As he spoke, he glanced at Angelica, who was walking over with Curtis and Simon. He continued, “Back then, I picked Angelica for Jackson after considering everything, but he chose you himself.”
Angelica had just walked up when she heard that, and her face fell, clearly uncomfortable.
Jackson cleared his throat and smiled. “Alright, Grandpa, this isn’t something worth bragging about. Honestly, I’m the one who’s blessed to have her, not the other way around.”
Gerry burst out laughing. “Look at you, already standing up for your fiancée! Alright, I’ll stop. You two get each other better than I ever could. No need for me to say more.”
Victoria handed the wooden box to Gerry. “Thank you so much for personally supporting me tonight, Gerry. This is a thank–you gift for you. I hope you’ll like it.”
All the guests at tonight’s welcome party brought gifts of all shapes and sizes, but the most lavish one came from Gerry himself.
It was a legendary beauty pearl, said to preserve one’s youthful looks forever.
Of course, that was a bit of an exaggeration, but thanks to its unique ingredients, it actually helped keep the skin healthy.
“Oh?” Gerry took the wooden box and opened it, and was shocked to see the exceptionally rare medicinal herbs, ones Jackson had won for him at an auction just six months ago.
Even with all his years and experience, Gerry was genuinely taken aback.
“This…” Gerry could barely get the words out, stunned.

Seeing the herbs in the box, Simon frowned, suddenly recalling how he’d crushed two of these plants the first time he went looking for Victoria.
Victoria had told him those herbs were incredibly expensive.
He hadn’t believed her back then, but judging by Gerry’s reaction now, it turned out she was right. These herbs really are worth a lot.
