Victoria spat, then with a quick motion pulled her beautiful new mom, Daisy, behind her. “Come on, Julia, who’s even arguing with you? If you keep saying this in front of my mom and make her upset, I’ll really lose
it!”
Seeing Victoria stand up for Daisy right in front of her, Julia was so angry she almost choked.
Daisy gazed at Victoria’s protective stance, unable to hold back a secret smile.
It was a pity she hadn’t sewn this “cotton–padded jacket” herself, but Victoria really was so warm and protective just like the perfect little daughter.
“Sweetheart…” Julia’s eyes brimmed with tears, her voice thick with emotion.
Victoria quickly raised her hand. “Hold it, Julia. You’re laying it on so thick, it’s making me cringe.”
She quickly grabbed Daisy’s hand with her left and Hector’s with her right, then turned to Julia. “Since you want to stick around and help, Julia, make sure you give it your best shot.
“My parents have been working their tails off for my welcome party these past few days. Tonight, they’re heading home to finally get some real rest.”
Daisy and Hector exchanged a knowing look, shared a smile, and let Victoria pull them out of the party.
Julia stood frozen in place, completely at a loss.
Calvin, leaning on Milton for support, walked past Julia. He gave her a cold, dismissive glance and shook his head. “Trying to play games only made things worse for you.”
With that, he left the party.
Julia stood there, utterly lost for words, her face burning with embarrassment.
Some of the Binder family’s relatives who were still hanging around walked past Julia, shaking their heads and sighing with sympathy. “Julia, seriously, what’s going on between you and Darell?
“You finally found your real daughter, and instead of cherishing her, you ended up breaking her heart so badly that she sees your brother and sister–in–law as her true parents. How did things get so messed up?”
Julia could only swallow her bitterness in silence, unable to defend herself at all.
‘Who knew my own daughter would turn out to be such a star?‘ Julia thought.
They always assumed that once Victoria came home, anything would be better than her old life in the countryside. She should be grateful and just follow their rules without complaint.
But as soon as Victoria returned, Angelica, the adopted daughter, started stirring things up and made sure to give them a hard time.

For parents like them, having their authority questioned was something they just couldn’t tolerate.
Julia forced a bitter smile. “It’s all just a misunderstanding between us and Victoria. We’re her real parents, after all. There’s no way we’d hold a grudge overnight. We’ll patch things up with her soon enough.”
“If you do make up, just don’t do anything stupid again,” one of the relatives warned.
“Of course! Whatever she wants from now on, her dad and I will make sure she gets it!” Julia promised.
As the relatives left the venue, they shook their heads.
“After all that drama tonight, do you really think they’ll ever make up?” one of them asked.
“Not likely!” another replied.
“Calvin and Daisy really hit the jackpot. They’re getting up there in age and never had any kids. Everyone thought the Binder family’s fortune would all go to Julia and Darell, but now they’ve suddenly got this incredible daughter. Who knows how the inheritance will shake out now!”
“Just look at tonight’s welcome party. Victoria stole the spotlight and made a name for herself. She even won over Gerry. Calvin would be crazy not to spoil her after this!”
“Man, you never know how things will turn out,” someone sighed.
“Turn out? Please, they totally brought this on themselves! Who can’t even appreciate their own daughter? That’s just heartless!” someone else scoffed.
“True that,” another chimed in.
Julia half–heartedly ushered out the last of the relatives, then stared at the sprawling, chaotic banquet hall, absolutely livid. “That damn brat! She really had the guts to boss her own mother around and make me do all the grunt work!‘
Even though she was seething inside, she had no choice but to personally organize and oversee the cleanup.

Daisy couldn’t help but vent as she and Victoria flopped onto the couch at Goldenwood Villa. “Did you see how defeated Julia looked just now? That was so satisfying!
“Does she really think you’re some kind of disposable item she can toss aside whenever she wants, then just pick up again when it suits her?”
Victoria snuggled up to Daisy, soaking in her new mom’s warmth. “Now she sees I’m more valuable than Angelica and feels like she lost out. She really thinks I’m that easy to fool?
“Please. With a mom as gorgeous and gentle as you, why would I ever go back to her? She can keep dreaming
Daisy let out a helpless sigh. “Judging by how she tried to cozy up to us tonight, I bet she’ll be trying to stir things up between us all the time from now on.”

Victoria jumped up, raised her fist, and said, “I only recognize you and Dad as my real family. If anyone tries to come between us, I’ll knock them out myself!”
Daisy burst out laughing. “Exactly! If anyone tries to mess with us, I’ll have your dad beat them up!”
Hector, standing nearby, nodded and raised his hand with exaggerated seriousness. “Just imagining someone badmouthing my daughter right in front of me–man, my fists are already itching to throw a punch!”
Hector was usually all refined and gentle, but seeing him act like this made Victoria and Daisy crack up.
Victoria snuggled back into Daisy’s arms, her head tucked against her chest. She whispered, steady and soft, “Mom, Dad, as long as you never give up on me, I’ll always stay by your side.”
Daisy’s eyes grew misty, and she gently patted Victoria’s arm. “Lately, every night before bed, I can’t help but take out the family registry and check that your name is really there. That’s the only way I feel at peace, like it’s really true.
“You’re the precious gift heaven gave your dad and me. We never even imagined we’d have a daughter, so there’s no way we’d ever let you go.”
Hector teased, “I was just laughing at your mom. She’s so obsessed that she might as well sleep with the family registry under her pillow. After all these years, I never thought I’d have to compete with a piece of paper for her attention.”
Daisy turned and tapped him with her finger, pretending to scold him. “When did you get so sassy?”
Hector caught her hand and held it in his palm. “I’ve always wanted to banter with you like this. I just used to worry you’d think I was being too forward.”
“So now you’re not shy at all?” Daisy teased.
“If seeing you happy is the result, why would I care about being shy?” Hector said with a smile.
“Alright, our daughter’s right here. Tone it down,” Daisy said, her cheeks turning pink as she secretly felt a bit embarrassed. “We’re too old for this. Don’t let our daughter catch us being silly.”
As she watched her gorgeous mom and dashing dad banter playfully, Victoria’s smile was pure happiness.
Victoria thought, ‘Looking at it now, Darell and Julia kind of did me a favor, though they never meant to.
‘If they hadn’t refused to take me back back then, I never would’ve gotten so lucky and found myself with parents this amazing!
Victoria stood up and grinned. “Alright, Dad, Mom, you two keep being all lovey–dovey. I’ll leave you to your flirting!”
Daisy quickly pulled Hector’s hand away, giving him a playful scolding. “See what you did? You scared our daughter off!”
Hector grabbed her hand again, looking dead serious. “I know I’m guilty, but I have zero intention of stopping.”

Victoria giggled. “I wouldn’t tease you guys.” She shot them a sly wink. “I’m off to my room to chat with my fiancé and spend some quality time together!”
Hector waved her off. “Go on.”
“Got it!” Victoria dashed upstairs, making a quick getaway.
Daisy watched Victoria head upstairs, worry tugging at her heart again. “Victoria’s even more impressive than we ever imagined.
“She could have had her pick of anyone when it came to marriage. Did we really do the right thing by backing her decision to marry Jackson?”
