Ever since Jackson’s legs were crippled, he’d left the company in the hands of Cassian and Kane, while he stayed home to recover.

But now, with doubts about his father, Kane, and Cassian gnawing at him, he decided to head back to the office today to see what was really going on.

But just as he was about to head out, a middleaged foreigner in a sharp suit appeared at the door.

Mr. Jackson, I’m Dr. George. Your father, Kane, brought me in from overseas to help you with therapy. May I ask where you’re headed?the man asked in fluent Aelthic.

Jackson raised his hand, signaling the servant pushing his wheelchair to stop. He sized up the middleaged foreigner in front of him. Do I really need to tell you where I’m going?

Dr. George gave a gentle smile. Not at all. But as your therapist, I’d really like you to just focus on your recovery at home and let everything else wait for now. So, Mr. Jackson, if you could work with me, I need to check your mental state first, so I can figure out the best way to help you.”

As he spoke, he took out a mental health assessment sheet from his briefcase.

Jackson chuckled. So, how much did my father spend to bring you all the way here from overseas?

Before Dr. George could answer, Jackson continued, Just yesterday, I froze all my father’s bank accounts. From now on, any spendingexcept for his basic pocket moneyhas to be approved by me. Without my sayso, he can’t even afford your consultation fee. Are you sure you still want to take his commission and try to treat me?

At this, Dr. George’s expression was unreadable.

Jackson gave a faint smile. Alright, whether my father sent you here for therapy or just to spy on me, I’ve said what I needed to say. I won’t let your trip from overseas be a waste. You can stick around as my therapist, and I’ll pay your fee, double it even. Who knows, maybe my respectedfather will need your help himself one day.”

Dr. George couldn’t help but marvel at Jackson’s rocksolid mental strength.

Seriously, does he even need therapy?Dr. George thought to himself.

Honestly, I doubt anyone in this world could ever get past his psychological defenses.

Dr. George quickly caught on and smiled. Alright, I’ll do whatever you say, Mr. Jackson.

Jackson was pleased that Dr. George knew how to read the room. He took the assessment form. Once I’m done filling this out, I’ll give it back to you, Dr. George. Then I’ll have you hand it to my father for me.

Dr. George replied respectfully, No problem.

As Jackson left the estate, Ollie was already waiting outside.

When Ollie spotted Jackson, he came over, took charge of the wheelchair, helped Jackson get into the car, and secured the wheelchair.

So, what did you find out?Jackson asked, grabbing a pen from the car’s storage compartment and looking down at the assessment form in his hand.

Ollie buckled up and hit the gas. I checked out the orphanage where Cassian and Sibley used to stay. Apparently, it was a young woman who dropped Sibley off. She used to work at the Thornton Group, but got fired for reasons nobody really knows, took her severance, and left Benwig. All her info and photos are in the file bag right next to you,he reported.

Jackson’s hand froze around the pen, and he looked at the file bag sitting on the seat beside him.

He put the assessment form aside, grabbed the file bag, opened it up, and took out the documents and photos inside.

He read the name: Rue Snow.

The moment Jackson saw the woman’s photo and name, he recognized her instantly.

She was the woman his father had a fling with back at the company.

His mother blew up over it, even dragging her whole family in to threaten his father.

He might’ve only been three, but Jackson remembered every bit of it like it happened yesterday.

His mother was a force to be reckoned with. She’d never put up with her husband cheating, not even the slightest hint of flirting.

After that, his father straightened up and never dared to flirt with any woman again.

But who would’ve thought that even after getting fired, that woman still managed to hook up with his father, and somehow, right under his mother’s nose, she secretly gave birth to his illegitimate daughter.

My dear father might be a total failure at work, but when it comes to sneaking around, he’s a real pro, Jackson thought to himself.

Ollie continued, Rue passed away in an accident five years ago. If you want to confirm whether Sibley is your father’s illegitimate daughter, all it takes is a paternity test. Cassian’s case, though, is a lot trickier.”

Jackson got what Ollie meant.

To prove he and Cassian were real brothers from the same mother, just a DNA test wouldn’t be enough.

The orphanage still hasn’t found any clues about Cassian’s origins. The old priest who used to read Cassian’s fortune has already passed away, so there are no leads left. But don’t worry, Mr. Jackson, I’ll keep investigating. I promise, I’ll get to the bottom of who Cassian really is,Ollie said.

Mm,Jackson replied, his eyes growing darker.

If Kane really had such a big scheme, ever since that old priest claimed his brother would ruin the Thornton family’s luck, he must’ve plotted to send his real brother away and swap him out for his own illegitimate child born to another woman. He would’ve made sure every detail was flawless. And with all these years gone by, digging up the truth now was anything but easy.

Now that Rue is gone, there’s no way to run a DNA test between her and Cassian.

With that in mind, Jackson put the documents and photos back into the file bag, then picked up the assessment form he hadn’t finished filling out.

Coincidentally, there came the next question on the assessment.

[I feel like I’ve been betrayed or that someone is trying to manipulate me.]

Jackson picked up his pen and checked the box for the last one.

When Jackson arrived at the Thornton Group, the receptionist stepped forward, blocking his way with a polite smile. Excuse me, sir, who are you here to see? Do you have an appointment?

Ollie, pushing the wheelchair, frowned. You really don’t know who he is?

The receptionist blinked, glanced at Jackson again, and smiled. Sorry, we see a lot of people here every day, so I don’t really remember everyone. Did you make an appointment, sir?

Ollie was about to protest, but Jackson stopped him with a gesture. Let it go, don’t give the receptionist a hard time.

Clearly, the receptionist and the security guards downstairs had all been swapped out during the month he’d been recuperating.

He picked up his phone and dialed Cassian’s number, but as soon as it started ringing, Cassian hung up right

away.

Hearing the dead line, Jackson’s expression darkened as he switched off the screen.

The receptionist smiled politely and said, Sir, if you’re here to see Mr. Thornton, he’s currently in a morning meeting and isn’t available to take calls. Would you like to schedule an appointment?

With a frosty expression and a stern voice, Ollie shot back, What? Mr. Thornton? Mr. Thornton is standing
