Sibley froze for a second, forcing a smile. “Jackson, what do you mean by that? Don’t mess with me, okay? You know I’m a total chicken. I can’t handle being scared like this”

Sibley was still trying to pull the same old act she used to get Jackson to forgive her whenever she messed up.

But that trick only worked back when Jackson used to dote on her like his own sister

Meeting Jackson’s dark eyes, Sibley realized he wasn’t joking around or here to talk it out. She finally understood how serious things were. With her heart pounding, she pulled out her phone and dialed Cassian’s number.

While waiting for the call to connect, she kept sneaking glances at Jackson, afraid he might suddenly turn on her or do something drastic.

After what felt like forever, the call finally connected.

“Hey, Sibley…” Cassian’s voice came through.

Before he could finish, Sibley rushed out, “Cassian, Jackson’s here at the place I’m staying. He’s kicking me out and won’t let me stay. He says you have to come get me yourself, or I might not make it out of here safely.”

Her voice was shaky, on the verge of tears, and it was obvious she was scared out of her wits.

“Don’t worry, I’m on my way,” Cassian said.

After hanging up, Sibley shot Jackson a nervous look. “Jackson, I did what you asked.”

“Good,” Jackson nodded. “You’re out of the Thornton family now. You’re no longer my adopted sister, so stop calling me your brother. With your current status, you’re not worthy of it anymore.”

The words “not worthy” made Sibley feel uneasy inside.

But until Cassian managed to get rid of Jackson and become the Thornton family heir, she had to keep a low profile.

She just had to put up with it.

Sibley pressed her lips together, hatred flashing in her eyes. ‘Like I’d ever want to call him my brother. What a joke, she thought bitterly.

If it weren’t for Cassian’s scheme, she wouldn’t have to swallow her pride and put up with any of this.

Victoria settled into the armchair, crossed her legs, and shook her head. “Jax, look at her. She’s still got that smug look in her eyes. Honestly, you’re way too soft on her because of old times‘ sake. You should be

harsher.”

Jackson threatening me is one thing, but what’s Victoria doing here, stirring up trouble?‘ Sibley thought, irritated.

She couldn’t help but snap, “Ms. Binder, this is a Thornton family matter. What business is it of yours? Why are you sticking your nose in? Jackson’s treated me like his own sister for three years. Do you really think he’d go so far as to seriously hurt me just because I talked back?”

Hearing that, Ollie, who was standing behind Jackson, his expression changed, and he lowered his gaze to his boss.

If it were just Cassian or Sibley acting out, Jackson might not care, but when it came to Victoria, Jackson had absolutely no tolerance.

Victoria glanced at Jackson. “Hey, Jax, she’s actually got the nerve to snap at me. If you don’t step in, I’m seriously itching to teach her a lesson.”

Jackson let out a sigh. “I was planning to wait for Cassian to show up and put Sibley in her place right in front of him. But it looks like she still hasn’t learned her lesson. She’s got a death wish, disrespecting you right in front of me. Guess there’s no other way. Ollie.”

Ollie nodded. “Yes, boss.”

“Jackson, what are you going to do to me?” Sibley couldn’t take it anymore, getting up and slowly backing toward the open door, desperate for a chance to escape.

Jackson looked at her with a cold smile. “Nothing much. Just giving you a taste of your own medicine.”

Sibley’s brows furrowed in terror. “What do you mean? Are you seriously going to cut out my tongue? Jackson, you can’t do this to me! If you do, Cassian–your own brother–will never forgive you!”

Seeing that Jackson wasn’t about to stop Ollie, Sibley kept playing the emotional card.

“Jackson, your own brother was sent away right after he was born. All those years, I was the one who stuck by him through his darkest times. If it weren’t for me, he might not have even made it until you brought him back to the Thornton family. I mean everything to him. If you so much as hurt me, he’ll never forgive you, and you can bet he’ll do whatever it takes to get revenge for me!”

“Didn’t you always want to make things right with your brother? You wouldn’t want to break his heart, would you?”

She kept hammering home the “your own brother” bit, making sure Jackson knew just how crucial she was to Cassian.

But Jackson’s expression didn’t budge–no sympathy, no softening at all.

‘This time, Jackson’s not bluffing, Sibley thought, her stomach dropping.

Victoria rested her chin on her hand, watching the drama unfold with a gleam in her eyes. She looked downright thrilled.

As Ollie drew closer, Sibley’s heart hammered in her chest. She desperately stumbled back, her back nearly hitting the doorframe.

But just as she turned to bolt, a glass hurled by Victoria smacked her right in the calf. She lost her balance and went down hard, dropping to her knees.

By the time she snapped out of it, hands braced on the floor, she whipped around, and there was Ollie, standing right behind her.

Her eyes went wide, and her heart skipped a beat.

“Stay away from me! Don’t come any closer!” Sibley screamed.
