Chapter 71
Chapter 71
“Sibley, Mr. Jackson lost the use of his legs saving you. Instead of being grateful, you started seeing him as a cripple, thinking he could never inherit the Thornton family. You instantly changed your attitude, mocking him over and over. How naive can you get? Mr. Jackson isn’t even dead, and you and Cassian already think you can strut around and throw your weight over him,” Ollie said.
After finishing, Ollie grabbed a bottle from the wine cabinet beside him, didn’t even blink, and smashed it down hard onto Sibley’s knee without a second thought.
A dull thud rang out, followed by Sibley’s terrified scream.
“Ah!”
The piercing scream instantly filled the entire room.
Sibley’s face contorted in pain. She curled up, clutching her knee where the bottle had struck, writhing on the cold, hard floor, her mouth letting out anguished cries.
Watching coldly from the sidelines, Victoria arched her eyebrow slightly and murmured two words under her breath: “Oh-
ho.”
Then, she turned to Jackson, who was slowly rolling his wheelchair toward her, and said with a teasing tone, “Your assistant Ollie sure doesn’t pull any punches. He doesn’t have a soft spot for the ladies at all.”
Jackson smiled faintly and replied, “Well, that depends on whether someone’s actually worth showing any mercy to. If they’re just garbage, you deal with them like you would any other trash.”
Victoria nodded in agreement. “Can’t argue with that.”
The champagne bottle came out of the smash without a scratch, still good for another round.
Ollie stared coldly at Sibley, who was sobbing and writhing in agony, her face contorted beyond recognition. There wasn’t a shred of pity in his eyes, just icy indifference. “Pathetic. That was just one hit, and you’re already falling apart? Don’t forget, Mr. Jackson took a hundred lashes for you, and you didn’t even appreciate it.”
Without another word, he lifted the champagne bottle and brought it crashing down on Sibley’s other knee.
‘Ah!”
Sibley screamed again, her once–pretty face now twisted into a grotesque mask of pain.
Tears poured down her cheeks in torrents, mixing with snot and drool, leaving her looking utterly pitiful and broken.
With the last ounce of strength left in her body, Sibley pleaded desperately, “Please, just let me go… I know I messed up…. ackson, sir, please…”
But her cries were swallowed by the silence. No one even bothered to answer.
Victoria nonchalantly shot a glance at the handsome man next to her.
He remained unfazed, his expression blank, as if everything happening right in front of him meant nothing at all.
Victoria finally let a cruel smile curl on her lips. “Now that’s the way to do it. When someone close betrays you, you don’t hold back. You hit them harder than you would any outsider. Because only those closest to you can really blindside you
a knife in the back.”

Jackson looked at Sibley, a faint sadness lingering in his eyes. “Yeah, all those years in business, I played it safe, never made a single mistake. Who would’ve thought I’d almost get taken down by the two people I trusted most–my own brother and the girl I always treated like family.”
Their betrayal hit him like a blade straight to the heart, leaving him completely blindsided.
Even though Sibley wasn’t his blood sister, Jackson had always cared for her every bit as much as he did for his brother Cassian. In the three years she lived with the Thornton family, not a single person dared show her any disrespect because of her status as an adopted daughter.
He never imagined that the very two he’d poured his heart and soul into protecting would turn out to be the ones who wanted him gone for good.
Seeing Jackson still struggling to move on, Victoria got up, laid a hand on his shoulder, and said gently, “Alright, let Ollie deal with Sibley. I’ll help you with your legs.”
Jackson turned his gaze away. “Okay.”
It didn’t matter anymore.
He had Victoria now.
Even if everyone else betrayed him, as long as Victoria was always there for him, nothing else mattered anymore.
Curled up on the floor, Sibley looked at Jackson in helpless panic. “Jackson…big brother, don’t leave me…please, let me go…”
But all she got in return was the sound of his wheelchair rolling away, and the cold, distant silhouette of his back as he left her behind.

After wheeling Jackson into the master bedroom, Victoria closed the door behind them. She walked over to him, leaned down, and gazed into his handsome face, her voice gentle as she tried to comfort him.
“I know you always keep that smile on, whether you’re mad or feeling down, but you feel lost sometimes, don’t you?” Victoria said softly.
“It’s alright. I’m just like you. I have my weak moments too, but we get through them, just like
you
will.
“Once you start living for yourself, you’ll see how fun life can be,” she went on.
“So from now on, try to live for yourself a little more,” she suggested.
“Family, friends, romance…all of that should come after your own happiness. Taking care of yourself is what matters most!” she added.
Jackson listened closely to Victoria, but when she said that, he couldn’t help but cut in.
“Honestly, I want to put you ahead of everything else,” he said softly.
Victoria paused for a second.
Jackson continued, “Or maybe, in the future, I just won’t be able to help putting you first.”
After a moment, Victoria let out a laugh. “Jax, you’re such a flirt.”

Looking back at Victoria’s short fling with Gavin, Jackson realized she was never the kind of person to make the first move.
Her experiences had taught her to always protect herself.
Expecting her to open up and show love or care for someone was almost impossible.
But Jackson was willing to be the one who always made the first move for her, over and over.
“Since I’m so good at this, shouldn’t you give me a little reward?” Jackson paused, his eyes glinting with playful suggestion.
Victoria’s hand paused on the tool kit. “Oh, right, I almost forgot.”
With that, she leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to Jackson’s cheek.
“Is this what you meant?” Victoria pulled back, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Jackson was completely stunned, barely breathing; the only thing alive was the shine in his eyes.
After a long moment, he finally snapped out of it and looked up at Victoria, his eyes full of wonder and love.
“Why so quiet? Did my kiss leave you speechless?” Victoria teased, unable to resist poking fun at him.
Jackson gave a soft smile and nodded. “Yeah, if you kiss me again, I might not just be silly. I might totally lose it.”
