Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 704

The teacher had already escorted nearly all the other children inside and come back out, yet this father was still clinging to his daughter.

Desperate to get the parents to leave so the day could begin, she quickly agreed. "Of course, Mr. Blackwood, that's perfectly fine. Please rest assured, we will do absolutely everything to take wonderful care of her."

She had never seen a father so devastated over a kindergarten drop-off. Usually, it was the grandparents or the mothers who struggled to say goodbye.

"Thank you, I appreciate it." Julius finally set his daughter down and turned to his son. "Aiden, you have to take good care of your sister, understand?"

"I know, Dad. I'll protect her."

"Aurora, Daddy will be the very first one to pick you up this afternoon. Don't cry, okay?"

"Okay! I won't cry."

Her brother had promised that kindergarten was super fun, so she had no intention of crying.

Julius watched the teacher take his daughter's tiny hand and lead her inside. Even after she disappeared from view, he stood frozen, staring longingly at the doorway.

Unable to bear it any longer, Stella grabbed his arm and dragged him away. "Let's go. Stop staring. If you wait any longer, it'll be time to pick her up again."

Drop-off was supposed to be at eight-thirty. It was almost nine-thirty.

If the Blackwood Group operated with this level of stalling, it would have gone bankrupt ages ago.

Even after getting into the car, Julius hesitated to start the engine.

"Do you think she's crying right now?"

"I don't know why you're so stressed. You definitely weren't this sentimental when Aiden started school."

She remembered it vividly. On Aiden's first day, Julius had made the little boy carry his own backpack and march into the building by himself.
