Another couple of summer vacations rolled by.
An enraged roar echoed from the grand villa nestled halfway up the mountain: "Aiden Blackwood, you little brat! Get back here!"
A seven-year-old boy, his face covered in soot and his hair blown straight up in spikes, darted nimbly out of a side room. Hot on his heels was an older man with a half-white beard, aggressively wielding a feather duster.
"Stop right there! I'm going to break your legs!"
Aiden skidded to a halt. "Alistair, please don't be mad! Watch your blood pressure, you don't want a stroke! I didn't mean to blow up the medicine furnace, I swear! I'll tell my dad to buy you a much better one!"
He really hadn't done it on purpose. It was entirely the furnace's fault for being so fragile! He had just been trying to figure out a way to run the thing on electricity instead of manually burning firewood, but who knew the stupid thing would explode?
Thankfully he was fast, otherwise he would have been caught in the crossfire.
Alistair was absolutely furious. "You little menace, do you really think this is about the furnace? How many times have I told you that's dangerous? You never listen! If that explosion had hurt you, how was I supposed to explain it to your parents? And do you have any idea how many rare herbs you've completely ruined in the last few days?"
"Alistair, I was just trying to cross-breed and improve the herbs! You can't make scientific progress without a few failed experiments, right?"
Just then, another older man stormed out of the house, pointing furiously at a pile of shattered wood on the ground. "Save your breath! Was breaking the training dummy a 'failed experiment' too?"
"Silas, I didn't do it on purpose! That wooden dummy was just too weak. I barely tapped it and it completely fell apart. I'm a victim here too!"
"I don't want to hear it! Today, I am doing your mother a favor and teaching you a lesson. It's time you learned some respect. Put up your hands!"
Without waiting for an answer, Silas launched a lightning-fast strike at the boy.
Aiden seamlessly dodged Silas's attack with a tilt of his head and instantly threw a punch in return.
The old master and the young boy began fiercely sparring in the middle of the courtyard.
