**TITLE: Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 15**
**CONTENT: Chapter 15**
**Amelia POV**
“My name is Jake,” he introduced himself, his voice steady and reassuring. “I’m the Alpha of my pack. It’s alright, you’re safe now.”
Safe? The word echoed in my mind, but doubt gnawed at me. How could I feel secure when I’d just narrowly escaped death? Yet, he had indeed saved my life.
“Th-thank you,” I managed to stammer, my heart still racing from the chaos of the fight. I was grappling with the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside me, trying to make sense of this sudden, inexplicable bond. “You just saved my life. My name is Amelia.”
Jake’s gaze lingered on me for a moment, deep and penetrating. “Amelia, do you… feel anything right now? I mean, between us?”
His question struck me like a bolt of lightning. I took a deep breath, deciding to lay my cards on the table. “Yes, there is something, but—my mate and I haven’t officially rejected each other. How can I be feeling something like this? And, Jake, I have to tell you… I’m pregnant.”
Jake raised an eyebrow, and I could almost see the gears turning in his mind. What must he think of me? A human, lost in the woods, without any protection, an absent mate, and now carrying a child?
He probably thought I was out of my mind. I couldn’t say I’d blame him. But then, to my surprise, he said, “My family has a cabin not far from here, deeper inside our territory. You’d better come with me.”
The thought of my plan to reach the train station flitted through my mind, the urgency of it gnawing at me. There were only one or two trains a day, and I needed to get back to the human realm as quickly as possible. “I can’t. I’m heading for the train station—I need to get back to the human realm as fast as possible,” I shook my head, conviction in my voice.
Jake’s expression darkened. “You’re in trouble? Your mate—is that who you’re trying to escape?”
I hesitated, weighing my options. The connection between us felt undeniable, yet I was reluctant to divulge too much.
Jake raised a hand, a gesture of understanding. “I get it. But listen—this connection we’re feeling, we need to understand it. If you come with me now, I promise I’ll ensure you’re safely escorted into the human realm once we’ve had a chance to talk.”
I paused, considering. Despite the uncertainty, a sense of safety enveloped me while standing beside him. I believed him when he promised to help me cross the border between our worlds.
“Alright,” I finally said, my voice steady. “I’ll go with you.”
As I followed him and the other members of his pack deeper into the woods, my heart raced with a mix of fear and excitement. We reached a rugged jeep trail where a few pickups were parked. Climbing into one of the trucks, we drove further into the forest, the trees gradually thinning out until the land opened up before us.
Jake guided me inside, leading me into a spacious den filled with light from the wide windows and warmed by a deep fireplace. He settled me onto a plush sofa, draping a blanket around my shoulders, then set about starting a fire. Just as the logs began to crackle and dance with flames, a woman walked in.
“Jake, I just heard about your little tussle in the woods,” she began, her voice full of concern, but then her eyes landed on me. Instantly, her demeanor shifted as she approached, scrutinizing me from head to toe.
I doubted I made a good impression. I had been through hell in the past few days, even before I ventured into the woods with nothing but the clothes on my back. The attack by the rogue that Jake had saved me from had left me muddy, bloodied, and utterly shaken.
“What is this? What’s going on?” she demanded, her tone sharp and inquisitive.
She was petite for a werewolf, even slightly shorter than I was, and her deep brown hair glimmered with hints of red in the sunlight streaming through the windows. She was undeniably beautiful, but the expression on her face was anything but welcoming.
“This is Amelia. She got caught up in that ‘little tussle’ you just heard about. She almost died. Amelia, this is my sister Sienna,” Jake introduced, his voice steady but his eyes flickering with concern.
As Sienna studied me, I could feel the weight of her gaze, the tension in the air thickening. I braced myself for whatever was to come next.
