Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 161

Chapter 161

Amelia’s POV

When the guard gave his order, I thought I would be taken down into the dungeons as I had been in the past. Or perhaps to some new fresh horror, whatever an interrogation room could be.

To my surprise, I soon found myself being led to a sitting room within the palace itself. On ground level, not under it in the dark. The room even had a window which allowed for natural light to enter, as well as for me to try to escape if I felt so inclined.

Right now, I didn’t. I came here specifically to rescue Damien, and I still had a long way to go, I felt, to make that happen.

Besides, I wasn’t going anywhere right now. My thoughts were in such a whirlwind, and not just because of the danger I now faced.

Lifting my fingers, I touched my fingertips to my bottom lip, which was still a bit sore from the force of Damien’s kiss. I didn’t mind though. In fact, I had liked it.

Strangely, since kissing him, my pain had almost entirely disappeared. I didn’t hurt at all now, and could move around with relative ease.

Yet with this lapse in pain, exhaustion replaced it. I had been using the pain to keep me focused. Right now, without it, I just wanted to sleep.

I sat down in the couch in the room. It was so much more comfortable that the hard dirt or wooden park benches that Jake and I had stopped at to rest on our way back to the capital.

Before long, I found it more and more difficult to keep my eyes opened.

I was in danger here. I had to stay awake. But I was just so… tired…

Before I knew it, my eyes closed and I drifted off to sleep.

Benedict, The Alpha King

That damned witch had her talons in me. I could feel it, and yet… as annoyed as I was by it, I found that I couldn’t fight it. After I had commanded she be sent to the interrogation room, which was usually a torture chamber down in the dungeons, I had immediately reconsidered and had my guards bring her to a warmer, brighter, sitting room instead.

The affection I already felt for this girl was inexplicable. It was as if my wolf was recognizing another member of its pack. No, not just his pack. Family.

That couldn’t be. All of our family had been accounted for, going back generations and generations. Even those who had been born out of the mating bond had been recorded, their whereabouts kept track of for the sake of the bloodline.

Nowhere was there any connection with this girl.

Was this how she ensorcelled men? By tricking them into thinking she is part of their family?

On the way to the room, I stopped one of the scholars and asked him to check this girls’ bloodlines as well, to compare. I wanted everything out in the open. If we were going to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this girl was a witch, then we would do so with iron-clad evidence.

When I could see for certain that she was not a member of my family, I would feel more inclined to act against her. And act against her I would.

Along the way, my niece Sienna once more found me.

“You have to be careful, uncle,” Sienna said. “If you get too close to you, she will trap you in her web.”

I was growing tired of Sienna’s interference. Though she was family, my niece, she was beginning to tire my nerves. I’d already heard her warnings and knew what to expect.

“Do you truly think me such a weak-willed foolish man as to so easily fall into the trap of a witch?” I asked her.

At the sound of my tone, she drooped a little, perhaps out of reverence, or fear, or her own annoyance.

“Uncle… Alpha King… I mean no disrespect, please know that. But I have seen other strong Alphas also succumb to her charms. Like my father and my brother. And Alpha Damien, too. Before Amelia showed up, all of them had their packs and the kingdom at the top of their priority list. After… Well, you’ve seen how things shifted.”

“I have,” I said. “But I am not some pack, Alpha, niece. I am King. I was not chosen because I am a weakling. I have won many battles, defeated fierce foes, and clawed my way to the top, dethroning the last Alpha King and taking his place, bringing glory to my family and my line. You are saying now, that you expect me to be felled by some mere human?”

“I just want you to be careful,” Sienna said. She weaved her fingers together. “I’ve lose everyone else. You are the only one who has been able to see reason. If she gets her hooks in you too…”

Seeing her despair, some of my annoyance cleared. I could see now that she wasn’t questioning me out of disbelief in me or my strength, but out of fear and loneliness. This poor girl watched the witch turn her family against her. They even cast her out of the pack, sending her away without formally exiling her.

Such despicable behavior. I still needed to speak with Martin about this.

But that had to wait until I could deal with the creator of all these problems: the girl who was waiting just beyond the guarded door ahead.

“I will take care of everything, Sienna,” I told her. “Trust me.”

I could tell that trust did not come easily to the girl. She nodded at my words, but her jaw remained locked, her eyes defiant and fiery.

I respected that passion in her, but she needed to learn it had a place and was not to be directed at her betters.

Leaving her behind, I continued onward to the door, then nodded at the guard who stepped to the side.

With the guard to the side, I stopped to prepare myself for whatever games this witch would attempt to play. Sienna had warned me of some, and I’d felt some of the others myself. I would not let her get the best of me, that I was certain.

After a deep breath, I opened the door.

Stepping into the room, I immediately paused. The witch – Amelia, was it? on the couch. Some kind of trick?
