Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 171

Chapter 171

Ethan’s POV

I didn’t know what to do. I loved my sister, and valued my family, but I’d always thought pack deserved to be above all else. Because of this, I had supported my Alpha through everything.

But now my love of my sister was in direct contest with my love of my pack. I had to pick a side, one or the other, one at the expense of the other, and I didn’t know what to do. I had no idea where to stand.

Eventually, Claire helped convinced me. She conflated my two priorities, combining them together to help me see.

By supporting her, I was supporting my pack.

Damien had been manipulated by Amelia, and was now making poor choices in his desperation to win her back, even though it was clear Amelia didn’t want him.

“Besides,” Claire said pointedly, “If he chooses a half-werewolf, half-human child as his heir, the entire pack will suffer. My child was created for her strength. Now, Damien plans to cast both of us out in favor of someone inferior.”

With that comment, I understood that I had no real choice here. To protect my family and my pack, I had to do what I could to convince Damien of his wrongdoing.

“A conversation won’t work,” Claire said. “What we need to do is something more serious.”

“How much more serious?” I asked.

Claire gave me a dark sort of look, something that sent chills down my spine. I’d never seen her look like this before, with her eyes blank, like twin black holes, all empathy and emotion gone from their depths.

She seemed so different from the girl I was raised with. I knew Amelia was to blame for this change in her, which rallied some hatred within me for the human. Yes, she had saved my life once, and I owed her for that, but… she had hurt my sister in ways that I couldn’t forgive.

Justice needed to be dealt.

Maybe I agreed too soon. Maybe I should have taken more time to consider things.

Instead, I followed Claire to the hospital.

Dr. Wyatt was already preparing to venture north to Jake’s pack to check on Amelia. After what she had experienced, the doctor wanted to be sure the baby was safe.

Why did a half-human deserve more consideration than my sister’s child? No one had checked on her since her arrival home.

Only me.

My protectiveness over my sister grew.

In the hospital, I walked right up to the reception area. “Please,” I said, faking urgency. “My sister is pregnant and having stomach pain and needs to be treated right away. Is Dr. Wyatt available?”

“Y-yes… Beta Ethan…” the receptionist said, recognizing me at once.

Claire groaned as she clutched her waist.

“Hurry!” I said.

Immediately, some nurses came out from the back and ushered Claire back. I went with them for a while, until the hallways turned. While Claire was being escorted to the right, toward one of the examination rooms, I went left, toward where I knew Dr. Wyatt’s office to be.

I had delivered enough messages to her from Damien to know exactly where she often was within this hospital. As I suspected, I found Dr. Wyatt packing in her office. I hid to the side just as she received the call that she was needed. She left behind her things and rushed out of the office and down the hall.

She didn’t look the other way. She never saw me standing there. When she was gone, I ducked into her office and began snooping around.

In Dr. Wyatt’s medicine bag, I found the injection solution that Claire had already told me about. From my pocket, I withdrew a different solution, a poison, that we had kept under lock and key at the Alpha headquarters building. It was dangerous, and would kill Amelia’s baby, if not Amelia herself.

I didn’t revel in the idea of taking a life, certainly not a baby’s.

But for the good of the pack…

And for the safety of my sister…

I didn’t have much choice.

Quickly, I changed the labels on the vials, pocketed the actual medicine, and walked out of the room.

Just outside of Dr. Wyatt’s room, I was surprised to run into Damien himself.

“Ethan?” Damien asked, surprised. “What are you doing here? I expected to see you at the Alpha headquarters building.”

“M-my sister…” I started to say. The lies were easier when I didn’t have to give them to the man I had looked up to, my Alpha. Maybe harming Amelia and her child was necessary, but it was still going to hurt Damien. For that, I was deeply regretful. Almost enough to want to abandon this plan.

But for the good of the pack and the safety of my sister, I kept my mouth shut.

Resolved, I strengthened my voice and said, “My sister had stomach pains.”

Damien’s POV

Hearing that Claire was having some trouble weighed heavily on me. I wanted her out of the pack for all she had done, but I didn’t want the child to face danger because of it. The baby was innocent in all of this, even if her

mother was not.

“I’m sorry to hear that,” I said. “Is Dr. Wyatt with her?”

“Yes,” Ethan said.

I had come to the hospital to speak with Dr. Wyatt, knowing she was leaving soon to check on Amelia. I had wanted to talk to her beforehand.

I didn’t think I’d run into a complication like this.

And I still hadn’t had the chance to talk to Ethan about my exiling his sister. He surely had heard about it by now, if only from Claire herself, especially with the way he was glaring at me.

I stood there awkwardly in the hallway for a moment, before Dr. Wyatt herself appeared, coming up the hallway.

“Your sister will be fine, Ethan,” she said. “This was a false alarm. Indigestion, I suspect. Even before she was pregnant, Claire had trouble with red sauce. I warned her to be careful of such things, especially now that she’s pregnant.”

“Yes, doctor,” Ethan said.
