**Chapter 28**

**Jake’s Perspective**

As I raced up the stairs, my heart pounded in my chest, fueled by a mix of adrenaline and dread. The sight that greeted me was nothing short of alarming. I rushed to my sister, my mind racing with worry.

“Sienna! Are you okay? What on earth happened?” My gaze darted to the doorway, catching a glimpse of Amelia darting out of the room, her expression unreadable.

Sienna’s tears flowed freely as I gently helped her sit up, my hands steadying her. “Oh Jake, it was just terrible. She stormed in here, demanding that I treat her better. She called me a spoiled brat!” Her voice trembled, and she paused, burying her face in her hands, as if trying to shield herself from the memory. “And then… then she just came at me! It was horrific.”

I murmured soft reassurances, my heart aching for her. As we stood, I carefully examined her for any signs of harm, but to my relief, there were no cuts or bruises marring her skin. Yet, seeing my little sister in distress twisted my insides. What she was saying, though, felt utterly bewildering.

“Are you telling me Amelia actually attacked you? I don’t get it.”

In a sudden burst of anger, she shoved my hands away, her eyes blazing. “No, you just don’t want to believe me! You’re siding with her over me!”

“Sienna.” I was taken aback by the intensity of her rage. I had known she struggled with Amelia’s presence, but this level of fury was unexpected and unsettling.

At that moment, my mother appeared in the doorway, her brow furrowing with concern. “What’s happening here? Have you two been fighting?”

I watched as Sienna’s face crumpled once again, and in an instant, she rushed into our mother’s embrace, sobbing uncontrollably. “Amelia attacked me, Mom! It was so awful!”

The shock on my mother’s face mirrored my own as we exchanged a glance filled with confusion and concern. She quickly focused on Sienna, leading her away to comfort her, her nurturing instincts kicking in.

Left alone in the chaos of the room, I surveyed the disarray—books scattered, chairs overturned. My mind was a whirlwind of questions. What had just transpired?
