**TITLE: Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 29**
**CONTENT: Chapter 29**

He strides into the room, brushing past me as if I were merely a shadow. “Going somewhere?” His voice is curious yet laced with an undercurrent of concern.

I pivot to meet his gaze, a wave of shame washing over me. The thought of slipping away without a word gnaws at my conscience. It would have been an unfair act, a betrayal of the bond we’ve formed.

“I shouldn’t be here,” I utter, my voice barely above a whisper. “Sienna—”

“Sienna is completely wrong,” he interjects, his tone firm yet gentle. “I know what transpired. I know she’s the one who lashed out at you.”

I dismiss his words with a wave of my hand. Yes, Sienna’s attack had been shocking, leaving my cheek stinging and my heart racing. Yet, amidst the pain, it had also served as a harsh awakening.

“She has a point, though.” I raise my hand to halt him before he can speak again. “This isn’t my home. No matter how deeply I feel connected to you and your family, this place isn’t mine. I don’t belong here.”

“But you do belong here,” Jake insists, his voice softening as he takes the clothes from my hands and carelessly tosses them onto the bed. He grasps my hands, his touch warm and reassuring. “Amelia, the bond we share is significant. It’s something vital. You can’t just run away from that.”

His fingers brush against my cheek, and I can feel the heat radiating from the spot where Sienna had struck me. “My sister was wrong for what she did, and she’s mistaken if she believes you’re anything but the kind, gentle soul I’ve come to cherish.”

Tears threaten to spill from my eyes at his tender words and gentle caress. My mind screams that leaving is the only option, that I must distance myself from this chaos. Yet, my heart aches for the comfort of Jake’s embrace, longing to be held by him, to feel safe.

When he pulls me close, I surrender to the moment, allowing myself to be enveloped in his warmth. We remain there in silence, the world outside fading away. After what feels like an eternity, he gently steps back, wiping away a tear that has escaped down my cheek.

“Come on. Let’s head downstairs and face this together.” His voice is steady, carrying a weight of determination.

I inhale deeply, steeling myself, and follow him down the staircase to the living room. The atmosphere is tense, thick with unspoken words. Martin and Lillian are seated closely on a loveseat, their expressions serious. Sienna, however, is perched in an oversized armchair, her arms crossed defiantly, her face a storm cloud.

The moment I enter, she leaps to her feet, her voice sharp and accusatory. “Don’t let her near me! She’s dangerous. She’s a witch!”

“Sienna!” Lillian’s voice slices through the air, loud and commanding, filled with a mother’s authority. “I’ve had enough of this nonsense. Sit down this instant.”
