Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 347

Chapter 347

Damien’s POV

“Come out into the hallway,” I told Jake. “We’ll talk about this there and give Amelia some space.”

“Damien…” Amelia said.

“I’ll be right back,” I told her.

Jake seemed sullen, and, perhaps because he was so defeated, he nodded and joined me in the hallway. The minute we were outside of Amelia’s door, with it closed behind us, he inflated again, filled with rage.

“Jake, we should talk about this,” I said.

“I’ll talk about this but not with you,” he replied. “I need to speak with Healer Eve.”

We both turned and saw Healer Eve down the hallway. Jake didn’t wait, he immediately walked over to speak with her.

As we approached, she turned to face us, looking like she expected us.

“She doesn’t remember me,” Jake said with a growl, before Eve could say even one word.

“Yes,” she replied, “I expected as much.”

“You could have warned me.”

“I wasn’t sure, but now I am,” Healer Eve said. She looked at me. “You, I presume, she remembered.”

“She has her memory back up until just before she told me she was pregnant,” I said. “Everything after that, including meeting Jake and his family, and then her entire time as Annette, seems to be lost from her.”

Eve hummed.

“Her wolf didn’t appear when I asked for her,” Jake said. “Serena should know what’s going on, and she’s just gone.”

“She’s not gone,” I said. “I can smell her clearly.”

“She usually hid her scent, did she not?” Eve asked.

“Yes,” I replied. “She must have also been repressing Amelia’s scent, for me not to have been able to sense her before. But now, she isn’t. I know that’s Amelia in there. Her scent is obvious to me.”

Healer Eve took in all this information with a purposeful nod. “She’s not gone forever, but she is resting. Hiding those scents, and possibly Amelia’s memories, must have been incredibly taxing for the wolf. And the shock of remembering… Serena likely protected Amelia’s mind as best she could.”

“She will recover?” I asked, just to be sure.

“She should, yes,” Eve said. “In time. But we must accept that we likely will not have answers until that time.” She looked sideways at Jake, whose frown deepened even further at the news. “For now, Jake, I’m sorry. But she simply doesn’t know you.”

“That’s ridiculous,” Jake snapped. “All of this is insanity. She needs her family to help her get well, more than she needs… him.” He gestured toward me. “She is to return with us. You can treat her at our hospital, Eve, and we will set everything straight.”

“That’s not happening,” I sald. Knowing what Jake was going through, I was trying to be patient for the sake of Amelia. Amelia cared for her family, that much was clear from her time as Annette, so I wanted to give them the grace she would want. But that didn’t mean I was going to just sit by while they tried to take her away from me.

“She can’t stay here with you, especially in this state,” Jake snapped. “She doesn’t remember the things you did. She can’t possibly defend herself from the man you are.”

“She is my mate,” I said. “And I never had bad intentions. Things… went sideways, yes, but this is my time to fix them.”

“Fix them? You seem to forget that I only met Amelia because she was running from you,” Jake snapped. He looked to Eve. “You know her. Please. Back me up here. He will listen to you.”

Eve seemed conflicted for a moment. She even closed her eyes as if to consider it. But when she opened them again, she shook her head.

“I’m sorry, Alpha Jake. But Amelia returning with you might not be best,” Eve said.

Jake straightened. “Why the hell not?”

“You and your parents are strangers to her,” Eve said. “She will react poorly, as if she is being kidnapped. Then, of course, her distress will trigger Damien’s protective instincts as her mate…”

“So I’m just supposed to trust her to him?”

“I do not believe Damien will hurt Amelia,” Eve said.

“I won’t,” I confirmed.

Jake glared at me, clearly not trusting me even in the slightest. “You hurt her before. You drove her away.”

“I’ve made terrible mistakes,” I said. “But I’ve learned from them. I will not make those same mistakes again.”

“No,” Jake spat. “You’ll make new ones.”

“Both of you, please go into the waiting room while I run some tests on Amelia,” Eve said. “And while you are there, both of you can attempt to calm down. Raised tempers will not aid Amelia in any way.”

Jake and I glared at each other, but neither of us were willing to go against doctor’s orders, especially when it was

Amelia who needed the care.

I gestured for Jake to go first. He hesitated a long moment, but then finally moved. I walked out behind him.

We found his parents, Martin and Lillian, seated just outside the doors of the emergency room, waiting in a pair of chairs. They stood when they saw us and met us nearer to the door.

“Eve said Amelia has regained some of her memories,” Martin said. “But that she might not remember us.”

“Is it true?” Lillian asked, her voice breaking.

I felt nothing but pity for her, having lost Sienna to her jealousy, and now Amelia to her mind. But that didn’t mean I was going to allow Amelia to leave my side. She was my mate, she only remembered me. It was my duty to keep her safe and happy now.

“It’s true,” Jake said. “She only remembers her time from before she fled Damien.”
