Chapter 376
Amelia’s POV
Even with the unpleasantness Claire tried to bring forward to the event, it still seemed to be going well. From what I could tell, looking at people’s smiles and the way they were eating, dancing, and enjoying themselves, most people seemed to be having a fun time.
Soon, even I had forgotten about Claire’s presence, our confrontation, and the way she had glared at me.
Instead, I focused on the event, and then, when I saw my daughters nearby, excitedly looking at the flowers, at the displays, and especially at one of the guests’ lavish dress, I decided perhaps the duties of a Luna could be placed on hold for a moment to come behind the duties of a mother.
“She’s so pretty…” Amy said in wonder.
“How does she get the butterflies to stay on her dress?” Stacy asked.
Coming up behind them, I said, “They aren’t real butterflies, but there is a little motor in each on that flaps the wings now and then.”
“It’s so cool,” Stacy said.
The woman they were referring to, I recognized as Penny, someone I believed I only met today. She had come of age in the past six years. Though everyone in the packs was welcome to attend the banquet, most families traditionally chose to bring only the adult members of their household. Though there were still a few children running around, mostly from Jake’s pack.
“Have you met Penny before?” I asked Amy and Stacy.
They shook their heads.
“Would you like to meet her now?” I asked.
“Yes!” Stacy said at once.
“Could we?” Amy asked.
I took both of their hands in mine and then led them over to Penny. Penny had been speaking with her parents as we approached, but then she turned and startled a little, like she hadn’t expected us.
“Luna…” She glanced at the girls.
“I beg your pardon, Penny,” I said. “It’s just that my daughters Amy and Stacy here, they are so enamored with your dress they wanted to meet you and see it up close.”
At once, any trepidation vanished from Penny’s face and delight replaced it. Behind her, her parents also seemed pleased.
“You look like a princess,” Amy said.
“Are the butterflies robots?” Stacy asked.
Kneeling slightly, Penny held out one of her hands for Stacy to see. On the back of it was one of the fake

butterflies, its wings lazily fluttering. “They are. Amazing, isn’t it? They look so much like the real thing.”
“So cool,” Stacy said softly.
The butterflies weren’t the only impressive thing about the dress. It was included some handmade lace and other delicate stitching and needlework. Tiny beads were sown into the fabric making it seem like it shimmered whenever Penny walked.
“You must tell me your designer,” I said. “I’d love to have something commissioned for the girls.”
Penny’s cheeks reddened slightly. “Luna… I made the dress myself.”
My eyes went wide. “You did?” I said that a bit too loud, catching the attention of others nearby. Perhaps it wasn’t the most ladylike, or Luna-like, reaction, but I had been so impressed that none of that mattered to me in this moment. “Penny, you are an expert craftsman. The whole of the pack should be proud of your skill. We must show more people your work. Everyone should know. Have you made many dresses?”
“Most people don’t ask about them…” Penny said with a sad sort of smile. As she looked at me, I saw a spring of hope in her eyes. She had true talent, all she needed was recognition. “You were the first.”
“Amy and Stacy should take the credit,” I said. “They are in love with the dress.”
Penny smiled wider.
Damien’s POV
When Amelia had stepped away from mingling to spend time with the girls, though I was pleased as a father, I was worried as a mate and Alpha. I knew the people of my pack were watching her critically, waiting for her to have a mess up of any kind.
Was this the moment they would get their wish?
As she and the girls whispered about Penny’s dress, I held my breath. Penny was the much-beloved daughter of a pair of well-respected members of my pack. If this were perceived as an insult in anyway…
Amelia and the girls went over to Penny, and I stepped forward to intervene.
But then, only a few steps in, I stopped.
Penny, and her parents behind her, were smiling.
The more the conversation went on, the more pleased they seemed.
Even those around them had turned to give Amelia their attention, and they too seemed endeared to her.
As my fear ebbed away, some shame replaced it.
Amelia has more than proven her abilities tonight, and I had always known her kindness. For me to doubt her, for whatever reason, only did her a disservice.
In truth, I was proud she was my mate, and I knew I needed to trust her more to be able to handle herself in situations such as these. From now on, I would.
I wasn’t going to risk pushing her away again, like I did before, allowing my doubt to win.

Love would win this time. I would make sure of it.
Claire’s POV
The more I watched Amelia tonight, the more I wanted her dead. Especially when the children seemed to love her.
No, that wasn’t right. I didn’t care what Amy thought. But the moment I heard my own flesh and blood Stacy use the word Mom to call for that lesser bitch, my skin crawled and the hate within me fanned even hotter.
Getting Amelia alone and attacking her here seemed unlikely. As much as I wanted to scratch her eyes out myself, this wasn’t the event for such brute force.
