Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 377

Chapter 377

Amelia’s POV

I knew I should have waited until after the girls finished eating their cake, but the minute I saw the band strike up their instruments, I couldn’t help but run over there and request that they play the girls’ favorite song

Knowing how excited they were, I wanted them to be the first ones out on the dance floor.

And it happened. The minute the band struck the first chord, the girls totally forgot about the bites of cake propped on their forks halfway up to their mouths. They dropped the forks down to the table and bolted from their seats, rushing to me already on the dance floor.

We were the first ones dancing, and we danced to our hearts’ content, like no one was watching and embarrassment was a choice we weren’t accepting today.

Before long, others joined us, including my parents. The girls were ecstatic to dance with their Grandma and Grandpa. Dad even showed them some dance moves from generations gone by.

“This was the hit move in my twenties,” he told the girls. Grandma laughed, especially when the girls tried it. My parents seemed much younger in that moment than I had known them to be. Than I ever knew them, actually,

Soon, the temporary dance floor filled with people from both packs, and I was so pleased to see that we weren’t the only ones letting go. People were letting loose, no longer quite as stuffy or stiff.

Events like these typically required everyone to be on their best behavior. I liked to think others were following the example of me and my family and allowing themselves to have a bit of fun.

Having fun was a bonding experience and I was certain that it would lead to a better, stronger pack.

I also just wanted to enjoy this moment with my girls and my parents, and all of my new friends.

To my surprise, Damien made his way through the crowd then. When he reached us, the girls swarmed him.

“Dance, Daddy!” Amy said.

“Dance with us!” Stacy added.

Damien’s eyes met mine and we smiled at each other. Seeing the moves my dad was doing, Damien decided then to join in, making the girls laugh.

It was a wonderful moment that made not only our family laugh, but also those around us.

I hoped the others could see that, yes, while Alpha families could be regal and important, and Alphas worthy of the utmost respect, we were all also just people like anyone else.

If my only success as a Luna was to make Damien and the Alpha families more approachable and likable, I will have considered my reign a success.

After a few minutes, Damien slipped closer to me. Stepping behind me, he wrapped his arms around me and tugged my back against his chest. In my ear, he whispered, “You truly are the most amazing woman. How did I ever get so lucky as to find you?”

Turning in his arms, I smiled up at him. “I’m the lucky one,” I told him.

We leaned closer, about to kiss. Just before our lips met, a scream sounded, sharp and shrill.

A mother crying over her son. “What’s wrong with him? He’s not breathing!”

The band stopped playing, ending on an ear-splitting screech. All of the dancers stopped, stunned.

Damien and I turned to find the source of the sobbing.

We quickly found it, a woman hunched over her son, about three years old. He was half in her arms, his eyes closed, his body limp.

Something inside of me sprung into action. Moving away from Damien’s arms, I rushed toward the crying mother. Falling to my knees at her side, I inspected the child as best I could. He had some cake frosting on his lips.

Werewolves weren’t prone to choking. There had to be something else going on here. I forced myself to focus, to look more closely, to see what might not normally be seen at first glance.

Then, taking in his splotched color and the soft tremor of his hands, I knew, somehow, what was happening here.

This child had been poisoned.

“Call an ambulance!” I shouted, then looked around to another, closer servant. “I need charcoal. As much as you can find, as quickly as you can find it.”

The mother was crying and shaking so hard, I worried for her health too. But in the moment, I knew she would want only the boy to receive attention.

“I can help,” I told her. “Please, let me.”

The mother looked at me with open fear in her damp eyes. “Luna…?”

The servant brought the charcoal.

“Please,” I said again, putting weight and emotion behind the word.

At last, the mother opened her arms, allowing me more access to the child. Reaching for the charcoal, I immediately got to the work of saving this child, allowing instinct to take over.

I didn’t know where some of this knowledge and skill had come from, but in the moment, I didn’t care.

Saving the child was paramount.

Everything else could wait.

Damien’s POV

I hurriedly came up behind Amelia as she worked. She was in auto-pilot, moving like a machine to save this child. I knew she was capable, having seen her worked in the past before any of her memory loss and then again as Annette. What I didn’t know was how she knew she could do this.

Maybe she was moving on instinct. In this moment, I wasn’t going to get in her way. Instead, after making sure that an ambulance had been called for, I looked around the scene. Stacy had collapsed in a similar fashion before, so it was possible that this child suffered a similar ailment.

But… the frosting on his lips and Amelia’s request for charcoal had me suspecting something much more

sinister.

Poison.

I looked to the cake. These were the pieces that had been meant for my two daughters. The errant little boy must have tired of waiting for his turn and sneaked a piece from Stacy’s plate.

Leaving the Amelia to her work, I stepped away to summon one of my enforcers nearer. Jake arrived at the same

time.
