Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 378

Chapter 378

Amelia’s POV

I did the best I could for the child, pleased when he threw up a little. Hopefully there was enough of the poison there, out of his stomach, to help him. At least, he was breathing again.

When the paramedics came, I stepped aside to allow them the space to work. Quickly, I told them all that I had done, so they were aware of the steps already taken.

After stabilizing the child, they hurried him through the tent and out to the waiting ambulance. His mother moved quickly along behind them.

As the sound of sirens dimmed in the distance, the child on their way to the hospital and proper care, I felt a bit of relief alongside the worry. It was a confusing bunch of feelings.

I hoped beyond hop that the boy would be alright, but I was relieved he had seemed stable when they took him away and knew he would be in the best possible care soon.

He should be alright.

I would still worry until I had confirmation of that.

As the intensity of the moment seemed to die down, and my adrenaline started to wash off, I started to hear the words of those around me.

“I can’t believe how quickly you sprang into action,” said a man to my left.

“I’m not surprised. Remember when she healed Ethan?” a woman to my right said. “She’s shown her abilities to us before. I bet that’s what you’ve been doing these past six years, right, Luna? Honing your healing skills in private?”

I couldn’t answer that. I didn’t know.

And I didn’t remember anything about saving a member of the pack. Wasn’t Ethan Damien’s Beta? What happened to him in the past six years?

I shrugged somewhat helplessly, unable to give a real answer.

“Thank the Goddess for you, Luna,” said the man on my left. “You likely saved that little boy today.”

“I just wish there was more I could do,” I said.

“You are a hero,” said the woman to my right. “And we are proud to have you as our Luna.”

I must have been in shock because of what happened. I didn’t know what to say in this moment, or even how to

react.

I was just so worried about that poor little boy.

Damien’s POV

Jake and I couldn’t find Claire at a glance, so we set our enforcers to the task of finding her. While they searched, the two of us moved to the caterer’s area where the cake had been left and prepared.

All of the caterers, bakers, and servants were there. The bakers looked mortified, the wife crying on the husband’s shoulder.

“I don’t know what happened,” she insisted. “There’s nothing in that cake but the usual ingredients. Unless the child is allergic to buttercream…”

“This wasn’t an allergic reaction,” I said. Though we were still waiting on results from the lab, from Amelia’s actions, I had a fairly good idea that poison was the culprit. The test results would clear everything up, but in the meantime, Jake and I had already agreed to treat this situation like an attempted murder, to be safe.

“Did anything strange happen?” Jake asked. “Did anyone try to help, or get near the cake, that shouldn’t have been there?”

The bakers didn’t know, and the caterers claimed to be so busy with the other foods that they hadn’t been paying attention to the cake at all.

“It’s possible someone could have tampered with it when our backs were turned,” one of the caterers admitted.

The servants however had a different reaction. Many of them were tight-lipped, a few even looking at each other.

No, looking closer, I could see that wasn’t correct. They weren’t looking at each other. Most of them were glancing at one individual, a servant who seemed vaguely family. She must have worked with the high society in the past. Had I seen her before at a party?

I couldn’t place her face, and that was incredibly frustrating.

But their suspicion was enough to raise my own. “You,” I said, gesturing toward the servant in question.

Her eyes had been downcast until now. At my word, she looked up.

“Did you see anything?” I asked.

The servant, her lips pressed hard together, shook her head.

One of the other servants narrowed her eyes, looking at the one under suspicion. “You were the one who delivered the cake plates to the head table, Sally.”

“So I delivered it,” Sally snapped back. “That doesn’t mean that I had anything to do with it.”

Jake crossed his arms. “It doesn’t mean you didn’t either.”

Sally glowered at him, which did nothing to lessen the suspicion upon her.

Another servant on the other side of her scoffed. “Sally, don’t be glib. We all saw you talking to that woman in the wheelchair. What was her name again?”

“Claire,” provided another.

I stood up straighter. Jake and I exchanged a glance.

Looking back at Sally, I demanded, “What did Claire want to speak to you about?”

“Nothing,” Sally said defensively. “She just recognized me from the past. She’s really very nice.”

“Is she?” said another servant. “She’s never been anything but rude to me.”

“Me, too,” said another. “It’s such a pity, because her parents were the nicest people in the pack, may they rest in peace.” That servant glanced at me. “No offense, Alpha.”

“It’s fine,” I said. I knew how kind and generous they had been. It was a shame that their daughter had no inherited any of those traits. “What else did Claire say?”

“Nothing,” Sally said. “She was just being nice.”

“She gave you something,” snapped a servant, one that seemed particularly annoyed with Sally. Sally, it seemed, had not done very much to earn loyalty among the other servants.

“What was it?” I asked this servant.

“I don’t know exactly,” the servant replied. “But I could have sworn it looked like a little vial.”

“You liar,” Sally snarled. “You can’t possibly know that.”

“I saw what I saw.”
