Chapter 429
Sneaking downstairs, I gathered my folders and notes and prepared for my meeting with the pack wives.
At 8 o’clock on the dot, I made my call. My usual contact didn’t answer.
Strange. I tried again, but again, she didn’t pick up.
Since I had the numbers of all the pack wives, I tried some of the others next, thinking the first might have been sick today and forgot to tell me. Yet, one by one, as I went down the list, I was greeted with voicemails.
Finally, at 8:30, after trying for a full half hour to reach someone, my initial contact finally answered.
“Ah, Luna, there you are. It’s not like you to be late,” she said.
“I’ve been trying to call each of you since 8. Haven’t you heard my calls?” I asked.
“My phone doesn’t say that,” she replied.
Behind her, as I was on speaker phone, I heard the others say, “Mine doesn’t either,” one after the next. One of them even added, “You should try to be more punctual, Luna.”
My annoyance spiked so high, I was ready to jump through the phone. But, one of the qualities of being Luna was patience, so I took a breath and tried to exercise that.
“Well, since we are all here now,” I said. “Let’s start with the meeting.”
“Actually,” one of the wives said, “Since we didn’t hear from you, we went ahead and placed the orders we’d been waiting on you to approve.”
“You didn’t send me any proposals,” I said. Placing them on speaker, I opened my email on my phone to be sure. I had no new emails from any of them. I even checked the junk folder.
“We sent them,” said another wife. “Really, Luna you should be more organized.”
One of the wives sighed. “Claire would have been more organized.”
The other wives immediately hushed her, but I heard what she had said loud and clear. My blood started to boil. How could they be so kind to Claire after what she was being accused of? After what she had done?
Patience, I reminded myself. They wanted me to get angry.
“I need proposals,” I said. “You need my approval before you order things.”
“It’s too late for that,” said one of the wives.
“Oh! There’s something happening here,” said the one I had called. “I need to hang up now. Don’t worry about anything, Luna. We are taking care of it all. You just relax, okay?”
“That’s all she is good at,” said another woman right as the call cut off.
Damien’s POV
I didn’t know how long I slept, but as I blinked awake, I was sure it wasn’t enough. Yet, with the sun in the sky

and Amelia’s half of the bed empty, I also knew it had been for far too long.
Turning over in bed, I immediately startled to find two pairs of eyes looking down at me from my bedside.
