Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 526

Chapter 526

Amelia’s POV

Damien did not return that night, but later in the day, Keegan came to the house to speak with my family and me. He notified us that school was being canceled for the indefinite future, so soon the children would be returning home.

That wasn’t all he said. “Alpha Damien has received intel that the battle will take place sometime this week. He is busy readying the pack for war, but has asked that I help ready the girls to return with Jake. He requests you leave for safety as soon as possible.”

I looked at Keegan, waiting. “Just Jake and the children?”

After he had ran away from our conversation last night, I’d guessed that meant he was closing me off again and that he still couldn’t see my value. I had no doubt that these orders to evacuate the children also included me.

“Just Jake and the children,” Keegan said.

I looked at him strangely. “Not me?”

“Not you, Luna,” Keegan said. “Alpha Damien gave no such order for your retreat.’

I blinked a few times, surprised. Maybe my guess had been wrong. Was Damien really going to allow me to fight?

To Jake, Keegan said, “Alpha Damien will meet your car at the border to say goodbye to the children.”

“I understand,” Jake said.

“I will ride with you until that point,” I said. Saying goodbye to the girls was something that Damien and I should do together. Also, I had several things I needed to talk to Damien about. If I tried to speak to him alone, I was sure he would just run from me again.

Jake gave me a hard, searching look, but nodded.

When the girls returned home, they hugged their grandparents tightly to say goodbye. We packed them two bags and loaded Jake’s car. They didn’t seem to understand why they had to go away, but after being sent home indefinitely, they likely figured out something was very wrong around here.

They were good girls though, and even with the confusion, they did as they were told.

With them in the car, Jake and I started the journey to the border.

“Timmy said there’s going to be a war,” Stacy said, even as Amy shushed her.

I didn’t want my girls to worry, but neither did I want to lie to them. “There will be some fighting. That’s why you two need to stay with Jake and be good girls, alright?”

“Okay,” they both said quietly.

Damien was waiting at the border. When he saw me in the car, he looked unhappy about it, but as the girls emerged, he tried to put on a bright face. Immediately, the girls went to their father for goodbye hugs.

I walked slower to join them.

Gods, I didn’t want to think about it, but if things went sideways, this could be the last time we were all together.

“Protect Mommy in the fight, Daddy,” Stacy said.

“I will,” Damien promised. “Of course I will.”

Stacy came to me for a hug next. Surprising me, she said, “Protect Daddy, Mommy. No one ever looks out for him.”

“I will,” I said, with the same conviction Damien had used in his promise.

Jake stayed near the car. As the girls returned to him, and Damien and I came closer, he hugged me.

“Return to us alive,” he said.

“I will.”

He didn’t say the same to Damien, just glowered at him. Then, he and the girls got into the car and drove away, crossing the border into Jake’s pack and disappearing down the long road.

When they were out of sight, Damien said, “I need to get back.”

He turned, like he was just going to leave me there.
