Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 63

**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 63**

Jake’s eyes returned to the front, a resolute determination etched across his features like a mask of steel. “She said no,” he declared, his voice steady and unwavering, as if those words alone could seal the fate of the moment.

Damien, barely able to contain the frustration bubbling within him, shot back with a sharp retort, “I didn’t hear a damn thing.” His voice crackled through the air, charged with an intensity that reverberated like a live wire. The atmosphere thickened with unspoken tension, a palpable force that wrapped around me like a suffocating shroud. I could feel it pressing down on my chest, constricting my breath. Resolutely, I decided I would not remain in this stifling space any longer. With urgency coursing through my veins, I pivoted sharply on my heel, my heart racing as I made my way toward the examination room doors. A flicker of hope ignited within me, fragile yet fierce, that Damien would not dare to follow.

As I stepped through the threshold, the doors swung shut behind me with a finality that offered a strange sense of comfort. I held my breath, straining to catch any sound that might indicate he was in pursuit. Seconds morphed into what felt like an eternity, and when silence enveloped me, I dared to steal a glance through the small window in the door.

To my relief, I spotted Damien standing there, momentarily frozen in place. He looked poised to follow, but Jake had stepped in front of him, effectively blocking his path. The two men were locked in a fierce stare-down, their mouths moving in a heated exchange, though the words were muffled and indistinct to my ears.

Dr. Wyatt lingered for a moment, observing the standoff between the two men before she broke away and approached me.

Instinctively, I took a step back as she entered the room, and when our eyes met, she let out a long, weary sigh, the tension in her shoulders visibly easing.

“He hasn’t changed,” she remarked, her voice low but clear, tinged with a hint of resignation. Without the Alpha looming over us, we found a fleeting moment of reprieve to speak more freely.

“I can see that,” I replied, irritation lacing my words. “Did he really need to be here?”

Dr. Wyatt nodded, her expression serious and unwavering. “I’m afraid so. I apologize for the unexpected presence. Initially, I was adamant about keeping him out of this, but upon reflecting on the situation and the significance of the mating bond, I concluded that it would be beneficial for him to be nearby—for your sake, and for the baby’s.”

I could grasp her reasoning, even if I didn’t necessarily agree with it. Just because Dr. Wyatt deemed it necessary didn’t mean I had to accept it wholeheartedly.

“Come, show me the way to the examination room,” she urged, her voice firm yet gentle, a reminder of her professionalism. “I want to initiate the necessary treatments without delay.”

As I led the way, I could hear her soft voice behind me. “He does care for you, you know. In his own way.”

“For me, maybe,” I replied, my heart heavy with the weight of my thoughts. “But not for our baby.”

The notion that Damien cared for me in his own twisted way fell short of what I needed. My child’s well-being came first, and I refused to settle for anything less than complete dedication from him to both of us. My child deserved that unwavering commitment.

And perhaps, in some small way, I did too.

I was still grappling with the reality of it all. Everything felt so foreign. I was in the process of figuring out how to exist without Damien by my side.

For the longest time, I had believed he was my one true love. I had envisioned a life devoted to being his wife, raising his children, and nurturing our home together.

But that dream had shattered when he chose to betray me with Claire.

Now, he didn’t even want the child we had created together.

A fresh wave of heartache washed over me, and I felt the familiar sting of tears threatening to spill.
