After calling out their sloppy academic skills just a minute ago, here she was, turning around to ask questions herself.
Lydia took out the photo she’d snapped of the barcode, her face all business. “I’ve looked closely at this. The numbers below use our standards. That means either the researchers want to make it look like someone from here is behind this, or there’s actually someone from our country on their team.”
Kevin’s brow furrowed as he nodded. “I was thinking the same thing.”
“And check out the last two digits. Those look like a sequence code for the clones. Which means there are already more than ten of them, maybe even more, not just here but possibly all over the world.”
Kevin’s expression grew more serious. “So their plan is to use clones to sneak into powerful families, replace the elite, and get control of the country’s economy.”
Lydia met his eyes. “People always want more. If we really think about it, if their plan works, replacing rich families might just be the start. They could move into politics too, and go after people at the very top.”
Kevin didn’t even want to imagine that. If it was true, it was terrifying.
“That’s why the United Nations has always banned human cloning. But now, someone’s done it in secret and actually swapped real people out for clones. The ones who got replaced… we don’t even know what’s happened to them.”
Kevin felt a chill run down his spine.
It was like there was some invisible hand in the dark, ready to grab you by the throat when you least expected it, making you vanish from the world without a trace.
What made it even scarier was that your family and friends wouldn’t even notice. They’d think you’re still you, still there with them.
And then one day, the person you thought was your loved one might turn on you when you least expect it.
Lydia couldn’t stop worrying about those people who’d been replaced. She had no idea if they were even alive.
Thinking about her own grandfather made her heart sink even more.
“But we don’t have a single lead. Where are we supposed to start? The only clue we had was the Lowe family, and even they don’t know when the switch happened. We’re just… stuck.”
They were totally in the dark. If they made even one wrong move, the people behind all this would disappear again, leaving them with nothing.
“There’s someone who might be a way in,” Lydia said suddenly.

thank u!...
thank u for the upload...
the next chapter is exciting...
the next upload is exciting. i cant wait....
Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
