Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 1146

Grandpa Samuel’s questions landed hard. Mr. Norwood’s face turned flushed, his hand gripping the armrest so tightly you could see every vein.

Mr. Jefferson picked up on his reaction and kept going. “Wayne, Lucinda’s a good kid. The Norwood family has raised her with love for eighteen years. She gets what it means to be grateful. Besides, you already treat her like your own. Why not just tell the truth and be done with it? Why keep piling lie after lie, and get everyone else tangled up in it too?”

Mr. Norwood’s expression only darkened. “We treat Lucinda as our own because we don’t want anyone looking at her differently, thinking she’s less than us, just because she wasn’t born a Norwood.”

It was obvious he was talking about Lydia. He just wanted everyone to believe Lucinda and Lydia were both Norwood daughters, both equal.

Mrs. Shaw let out a short laugh. “Lucinda’s already lived a life that wasn’t meant for her. Why are you so set on making her and Lydia twins? Isn’t that just fooling yourself?”

Mr. Jefferson looked over at Cameron and Kylie. “Cameron, is this what you and your wife want too?”

Mr. Jefferson had made up his mind. If Cameron and Kylie agreed with this mess, the Jefferson family would never help cover it up. They’d just tell everyone the truth, that Lydia was the one promised to their family from birth. They wouldn't stand anyone questioning Lydia’s place.

Cameron and Kylie had never even thought about going along with it. It wouldn’t be fair to Lydia.

“This is my dad’s idea. Kylie and I never saw it that way. But we promised Lucinda she’d never have to leave. She’ll always be our daughter.”

Mr. Jefferson nodded, clearly satisfied.

Mr. Norwood looked like he was about to explode. “Cameron! Have you thought about how Lucinda feels?”
