Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 239

Nick was nearly in tears as he spoke. He was honestly terrified. Now, every time he saw a police officer, he panicked, convinced Ms. Norwood had sent them to arrest him. Following Parker and Peter hadn’t brought him much—just a few petty benefits here and there. Thinking about it now, he wished more than anything that he could go back and make a different choice. Having that kind of guilt hanging over him was unbearable.

After Nick spoke up, the other managers who had been planning to quit started pleading with Lydia for another chance. Even the ones who had stayed quiet or were still undecided all chimed in, saying they’d take part in the company review. No matter what happened, they wanted to face it honestly, without anything to hide.

Downstairs, Derek and Terrance left the Greenward Power building after Josef saw them out.

Miranda had been sitting in her car, waiting in the blazing heat. When she saw the two of them come out without anyone else, her mood soured instantly. She’d come all this way and waited forever, just to watch them catch that troublemaker so she could teach her a lesson. Now they were empty-handed? Seriously?

“Derek, Terrance, what’s going on? Where is she?” Miranda forced a smile, trying to keep things polite. They were police officers, after all, even if they worked under her brother. It never hurt to be a little nice; people were always more willing to help if you treated them right.

“Miranda, we can’t take care of this,” Derek said, not bothering to sugarcoat it.

Miranda stared at them, totally confused. “What do you mean you can’t? She’s just a kid. She kicked my daughter and put her in the hospital. Isn’t it your job to arrest her?”

Derek braced himself. “She has the company’s security footage, and it shows she wasn’t at fault. Actually, she’s planning to press charges against Miss Stein and the others. She even asked us to… have a word with them.”

Miranda’s jaw dropped. For a second, she couldn’t even process what she’d just heard. “She wants to sue my daughter? Is she out of her mind? My daughter is the one lying in a hospital bed. How could it not be her fault?”

Miranda was practically shaking with anger.

“Miranda, we really need to check in with Deputy Chief Reeves before we do anything else. Our hands are tied here.”

Miranda’s face darkened. They couldn’t even handle something this simple? What was the point of keeping them around? She could just tell her brother to swap them out. There were plenty of people eager to join the Fifth Division.

Miranda sighed, but nodded. “Alright. Just hurry up. I won’t be able to relax until the person who hurt Louise is punished.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll handle everything.”

“Okay, Allen. I’m counting on you. Let me know as soon as you have news.”

“No problem.”

After she hung up, Miranda let out a deep breath. Suddenly, she realized she’d forgotten to ask Derek and Terrance for the girl’s name or anything about her background.
