Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 240

Whatever. She’s just some young girl doing a summer job, probably from a poor family with no connections. There was no way someone like her could be hard to deal with.

After the meeting, Lydia left the conference room and walked straight to HR. It was almost nine. Interview time.

The HR department was buzzing as usual. The moment Lydia stepped in, almost everyone looked up. She was just too striking—tall, slender, with a cool confidence that made her both beautiful and intimidating. People couldn’t help but wonder whose daughter she was, how someone could turn out looking like that.

Waiting for her own interview, Sierra spotted Lydia and felt her stomach drop. What was going on? She’d already sent the photo to Miranda and told her to call the police. Why was she still here? Had the police not arrived yet? That must be it. Louise’s uncle was a deputy chief—dealing with someone like Lydia would be easy for him.

But why was Josef with her?

Sierra’s mind spun with questions. She wanted to confront Lydia and get some answers, but Lydia didn’t even glance her way. She just walked right into the interview room.

Then it hit Sierra. Lydia must have some kind of connection. She’d gotten in through the back door. No wonder she acted better than anyone else. How shameless.

Sierra kept stewing, glancing at the clock. Half an hour passed and it still wasn’t her turn. Lydia hadn’t come out either. That was odd.

Finally, the interview room door opened and the girl applying for the same job stepped out. Sierra remembered her name—Carol.

“Carol, did you pass the second interview? How did it go?”

Carol was a quiet girl, and they’d chatted a bit while waiting. Now she looked excited. “I’m not sure yet. They said they’d let me know. But honestly, I think it went well. Ms. Norwood is amazing. She’s so young and accomplished. I really admire her. If I get hired and can work for her, that would be incredible.”

Sierra nodded, took a deep breath, and headed for the office. Before she walked in, she tugged down her neckline a little, making sure her cleavage looked extra tempting.

The secretary saw her little move and frowned. “Miss Morris, this way please.”

Sierra lifted her chin, gave the secretary a quick, scornful look, and strode in on her four inch heels. She was sure Ms. Norwood would be impressed.

But nothing could have prepared her for what came next.

The moment she stepped inside, she saw Lydia sitting at the head of the interview table, her clear, dark eyes locked on Sierra, watching her every move.
