Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 252

As soon as Officer Byrne heard the news, he gave the order for everyone to move out.

Byron couldn’t help but be in awe of Lydia. Honestly, every time L got involved, their cases seemed to solve themselves. It was like someone had hit fast forward. Suspects were found in no time, just like something straight out of a crime drama.

“Lydia, I’m sorry to ask again, but could you help us one more time? Leroy is just too slippery,” Officer Byrne said, clearly frustrated.

Leroy had already covered his tracks. All his old phone numbers were dead, no one in his family could be reached, and it was like he’d just disappeared into thin air. But Lydia, quick as ever, managed to track down the last place Leroy had been seen. She kept digging until she found a lead near the airport.

“Alright, I’ll do my best.”

On the other side of the city, Allen hung up his phone and sat there, thinking. Something didn’t add up.

He knew Corbyn, his right-hand man, better than anyone. No matter how tough things got, Corbyn always found a way. But today, he was stuck dealing with a young girl and needed Allen to come back and handle it himself? That had never happened before.

Was there something special about this girl?

That didn’t make sense. His sister said she was just a nobody, no connections, nothing special. So why was she so hard to handle?

None of it made sense. The more Allen thought about it, the more uneasy he felt.

He shot up from the couch, and the two girls with bunny ears and barely any clothes hurried over, each pressing close to him on either side. Their voices were sweet and playful. “Mr. Reeves, what’s going on?”

Normally, Allen would have loved the attention, maybe pulled them closer and enjoyed himself. But not tonight. He just wasn’t in the mood.

“Move,” he grumbled, pushing them away as he headed for his clothes.

He had just untied the towel from around his waist when the door burst open with a loud crash.

“You’re from the First Precinct?” He was so shocked he almost dropped his towel. His mind raced. How did they find him here?

“That’s right, Mr. Reeves. Please come with us.”

Allen’s legs felt like jelly. He nearly collapsed on the spot.

“Wait, hold on, what’s going on? I was just here to relax after a long day, nothing else. We’re all on the same side, aren’t we? Come on, help me out here.”

The lead detective, Emmitt, just stared at him, completely unimpressed. He said one thing, and his voice was ice cold. “Think about it. How do you think we got here so fast?”

Allen’s face froze.

“Was it Corbyn? Did he betray me?” He couldn’t believe it. He’d always treated Corbyn well. Why would he stab him in the back?
