Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 590

Lydia’s words may have been simple, but they landed like a bomb. Connor’s face lit up with surprise and relief. Lydia had finally admitted who he was and made it official in front of everyone.

Jenson and Milana, on the other hand, looked like they’d just bitten into a lemon.

“Lydia! You’re not even really part of the Smith family. What makes you think you can inherit anything? You are dreaming!”

Lydia didn’t rush her reply. “Grandma’s will is pretty clear. I’m the heir. And actually, after I left the Smith family, she updated the will again. Guess what? I’m still the heir.”

Jenson and Milana went from shocked to furious in seconds.

“Lydia! I always knew you were up to something. You only acted nice to Grandma because you wanted her money!”

She shot them a look. “And what about you two? You’re here for the inheritance too, aren’t you? Too bad for you. Grandma chose me, not you.”

Lydia’s expression said it all. She knew she had the upper hand, and there was nothing they could do. Jenson was practically vibrating with anger, staring at her like he couldn’t believe his ears.

“Lydia! You’re Miss L. You have more money than you can ever spend. Why are you trying to take the Smith Corporation too? That doesn’t belong to you!”

Lydia just smiled, a hint of pride in her eyes. “Who complains about having too much money? If Grandma wants me to have it, why would I say no?”

Milana was so angry she looked like she might pass out.

“If you’re so eager to be a good son, why don’t you stay here and take care of Grandma? Oh, and don’t forget to pay today’s medical bills.”

She turned to Connor. “Let’s go. We’ll take shifts. One day each. We’ll come back tomorrow.”

Connor nodded. “Alright.”

As Lydia started walking away with Connor, Milana panicked.

“Lydia! We don’t have the money for the hospital bills right now!”

But after she finally left the Whites and returned to the Smiths, her real parents weren’t much better. The thought made her laugh, a cold and bitter sound.

Just then, the heavy iron door creaked open. Lydia stood outside, not bothering to come in. The smell inside was enough to make anyone hesitate.

When Sandy saw Lydia and Connor, she scrambled to her feet, shooting Lydia a look full of hate.

“Lydia! How long are you going to keep me down here? Grandma’s fall has nothing to do with me!”

Lydia gave a short, sharp laugh. “Didn’t realize you meant so much to them. They actually called the police to look for you.”

For a split second, Sandy’s hopeless stare flickered with hope. “See? I knew it. I’m their real daughter. They wouldn’t just leave me behind…”

“Even if I let you out,” Lydia said, her voice cool, “if Grandma wakes up and says you had something to do with it, Sandy, I’ll make you wish you’d never been born.”

But right now, Lydia’s threat didn’t mean a thing to Sandy. She had only one thought in her head. She was finally getting out. She was finally leaving this nightmare behind.
