Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 696

Everyone turned to Jay, looking puzzled. No one really got why he was singling Lydia out.

Lydia glanced at Jay, pure impatience written all over her face. What now?

Jay caught the confusion and said, “Alright, I’m about to show everyone the right way to shoot. If your scores aren’t great, pay special attention.”

The group finally caught on. Lydia was just being pulled out to help demonstrate.

The sun was blazing on the range, the air thick with nerves and excitement. Lydia, standing straight in her crisp training uniform, looked like she belonged there. Jay walked up beside her, his tone gentle. “Just relax.”

Lydia nearly rolled her eyes. Was he serious? She wasn’t nervous, just annoyed.

Jay didn’t seem to notice. He started explaining, patient as ever. “First, you need the right stance. Feet shoulder-width apart, lean forward a bit.” He showed her what he meant, hands guiding Lydia’s posture, careful but direct.

Lydia narrowed her eyes, going along with it but clearly not thrilled.

“Now, when you aim, line up your eye, the front sight, and the rear sight. Keep the target right along that line.” Jay’s voice was clear, almost convincing enough to get anyone to listen.

He leaned in a little, checking Lydia’s aim, gently adjusting the angle of her gun.

Lydia took a steadying breath. Fine. She’d humor him this one time. If he tried anything else, though, she’d let him have it.

Her annoyance faded, replaced by focus. She forced her breathing to calm, pushing her irritation aside.

Jay kept going. “When you pull the trigger, do it slow and steady. No rushing.”

His hand was about to adjust her grip, but Lydia moved before he could. She locked her eyes on the target and squeezed the trigger without hesitation.

Bang!

“Fiona, you only got a three. Why are you acting so smug? Why don’t you ask for his help?”

Fiona shrugged. “He’s too busy to teach everyone. Later, I’ll just have Lydia teach me. She’s the only one besides the instructor who’s gotten a ten.”

Patricia laughed out loud. “You want Lydia to teach you? She barely knows what she’s doing herself! That’s hilarious.”

Lydia set her gun down and shot Patricia a look. “Go ahead. Let Daisy teach you. Let’s see how many rings she can get you to hit.”

Patricia scoffed. “Doesn’t matter how I shoot, I’ll still do better than you two.”

Daisy tugged Patricia’s arm. “Forget it, Patricia. Let’s just let our scores speak for themselves.”

Patricia nodded, face set. “Exactly. You hit one bullseye with the instructor’s help, don’t think but you ain’t gonna get tens every time.”
