Chapter 135

“Protect him from what?” Mother scoffed. “From having a stable home and a father who loves him? From being raised as the heir to
this pack?”
“From the constant accusations and hatred she’s been facing,” I snapped, standing up so quickly my chair rolled backward. ‘From
being treated like a criminal in her own home. From watching her husband doubt her innocence and bring his ex-lover to live under the
same roof.”
Mother’s eyes narrowed in indignation and rolled her eyes. “Sophia is not your ex-lover, she’s the mother of your child, Riley. A single mum who has done nothing wrong but loves you even before Lumina entered the picture. And she’s been nothing but supportive during
this difficult time.”
“Supportive?” I laughed bitterly. “She’s been trying to insert herself into my life and my family while my actual mate was being
investigated for crimes she didn’t commit.”
“How do you know she didn’t commit them?” Mother challenged. “The evidence was pretty damning.”
“Because I know my mate,” I said firmly. “Because despite my momentary lapse in judgment, I know Lumina would never hurt
innocent people or try to harm Riley.”
“Your momentary lapse in judgment nearly cost you everything,” Mother said. “And it still might. Which is why you need to make the
smart choice now.”
I felt a chill run down my spine as I narrowed my eyes in suspicion. I didn’t like what she was trying to imply one bit.
“What are you talking about?”
“Demand that Lumina return Ollie immediately,” Mother said, her voice taking on the commanding tone she’d used when she was Luna of this pack. “And if she refuses, report her to the authorities for kidnapping. Then break the mate bond and choose Sophia as your
Luna.”
The words hit me like physical blows as I couldn’t believe that she was saying something like this. “Are you insane?”
“I’m being practical,” Mother replied coldly. “Lumina has shown her true colors by abandoning you and taking your heir. Sophia, on the other hand, has stood by you through everything. She’d make a far better Luna than that weak-*
“GET OUT!” I roared, my Alpha power flooding the room. “Get out of my office and don’t you dare speak about my mate that way

Mother took a step back, but her expression remained defiant, like she was refusing to back down from the truth she believed was
“You’re making a mistake, Xenois. That woman will destroy this pack.”

“The only person destroying anything is you,” I said, my voice shaking with rage. “Your constant interference and poisonous attitude
drove Lumina away. Your refusal to accept her as family made her feel unwelcome in her own home.”
“I was protecting this pack-
‘You were protecting your own prejudices,” I interrupted. “And now my son is gone because of it. So get out, Mother. Get out and
don’t come back until you’re ready to apologize for the damage you’ve done.”
Mother opened her mouth to argue further, but the shrill ring of my office phone cut through the tension. Thorne quickly moved to
answer it, probably grateful for the interruption.
“Alpha Blackwood’s office,” he said professionally, then paused, listening. His expression shifted to something I couldn’t quite read.
“Yes, I’ll put you through.”
He looked at me, holding out the receiver. “It’s Alpha Zade’s line.”
My blood ran cold. Why would Zade be calling me? Had something happened to Lumina and Ollie? Were they hurt? Were they-

“Xenois,” Thorne said gently, “what if it’s important? What if something’s happened? At least take the call and hear what he has to
I stared at the phone in Thorne’s hand, my heart pounding erratically in my chest. The last thing I wanted was to hear Zade’s voice,
if something had happened to them, I to be reminded that my family was under another Alpha’s protection. But Thorne was right
needed to know.
I took the phone with trembling hands and pressed it to my ear. “Alpha Zade,” I said, my voice carefully controlled, “what is the
