Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 141

Chapter 141

“I’m not mad,” I said finally. “I understand why you did it. You missed Daddy, and you wanted to hear his voice.”

“I did miss him,” Ollie said softly. “And he sounded so sad, Mommy. He sounded like he was crying.”

My heart clenched at the image of Xenois breaking down during that phone call, of my strong Alpha mate reduced to tears by our

absence.

“Daddy loves us very much,” I said carefully. “And sometimes when people love someone a lot, they get very sad when they can’t be

with them.”

“Then why don’t we go home?” Ollie asked, the question I’d been dreading. “If Daddy loves us and misses us, and we love him and miss him, why can’t we just go back?”

I looked at my five-year-old son, this precious child who saw the world in such clear, simple terms. In his mind, love was enough to fix everything. Love meant forgiveness and second chances and families staying together no matter what.

“It’s complicated, sweetheart,” I said, the inadequate answer that adults always gave when the real truth was too messy and painful

for children to understand.

“But it doesn’t have to be,” Ollie insisted, moving closer to me. “Adults make everything complicated. Kids know that love is simple.”

“Mommy,” Ollie said quietly, settling into my lap easily, seeking comfort and attention from me that I gave.

“I know you’re scared. I’m scared too. But Daddy sounded different on the phone. He sounded like he really, really understood that he

made mistakes.”

I wrapped my arms around my son, breathing in his familiar scent and also surprised at his emotional intelligence. “What do you

think we should do?”

“I think we should give him one more chance,” Ollie said seriously. “But not right away. He needs to prove that he really changed his mind about Sophia and Riley. He needs to show us that he chooses our family first this time.”

I was amazed by the maturity in his voice. My five-year-old had a better grasp on what needed to happen than I did.

“And what if he can’t prove it?” I asked gently. “What if things go back to the way they were?”

Ollie was quiet for a long moment, and I could feel him thinking carefully about his answer.

“Then we’ll know for sure,” he said finally. “And maybe then it will be okay to let go. But Mommy, I don’t think we should give up without trying one more time. Daddy has never sounded as sorry as he did today.”

Chapter 141

I held my son close, feeling the weight of his words settle into my heart. Maybe he was right. Maybe I owed it to all of us to try one

more time, to see if the man I’d fallen in love with was still there underneath all the confusion and manipulation.

But I also knew that if I gave Xenols another chance, it would truly be the last one.

I couldn’t put Ollie through this cycle of hope and disappointment again. I couldn’t put myself through it either.

“Okay,” I whispered into Ollie’s hair as I closed my eyes and added.

“One more chance. But he has to earn it. If he doesn’t, then we will never go back to him again.”

“He will,” Ollie said confidently. “I know he will. Because he loves us more than anything, even when he forgets sometimes.”

I hoped my son was right. I hoped that love really could be enough to overcome all the pain and betrayal and confusion that had brought us to this point. Because despite everything, despite all my hurt and anger and fear, I still loved Xenois Cardia Blackwood with

every fiber of my being.
