Chapter 140
LUMINA
I left the office quickly, my mind filled with a lot of conflicting emotions. The conversation with Xenois had shaken me more than I wanted to admit, especially when he’d mentioned that dream about us dying in a car accident.
My steps faltered in the hallway as the memory of that terrible night crashed over me.
The rain, the desperate need to get away from the pain of watching Xenois choose Sophia and Riley over us again, trying to make Ollie feel better about the broken promise by taking him to get ice cream as an additional treat. The way the car had skidded on the wet pavement, the moment of absolute terror before the impact, Ollie’s heart not withstanding the pain and pressure before dying, me dying
in his arms…
But that was my previous life, my previous death when Sophia had won.
How could Xenois have dreamed about it? Was it possible that somehow, in some way, he remembered about it?
Or was it simply a coincidence, his subconscious fears manifesting in the most tragic way possible?
I forced myself to keep walking, pushing those thoughts aside to dwell on them another time when I was alone and wouldn’t be
disturbed.
Whatever the explanation or reason for Xenois, having that particular dream, I couldn’t tell him the truth. I couldn’t explain that his nightmare had actually been reality, that I had died hating him, that some cosmic force or a benevolent God had taken pity on me and given me a second chance to live this life differently.
Because this reality was different. In this timeline, Ollie and I were alive and safe. Sophia’s schemes had been exposed before they could fully destroy our family. We had escaped before the ultimate tragedy could occur. I finally left the city that I was bound to, and my son didn’t get his mysterious illness which led to his life force being drained only to give it to Riley.
And that had to be enough for me. I wasn’t going to be greedy and crave more or I would end up losing the things that mattered
most to me.
I found Lyn in the sitting room with Ollie, both of them surrounded by toy cars and building blocks. My son was actually smiling, genuinely smiling for the first time since we’d arrived at Zade’s house,
“There’s my boy,” I said softly, settling down on the floor beside them.
“Mommy!” Ollie looked up at me, and I could see that despite his earlier defiance that he was displaying towards Zade, he was
genuinely happy.
“Look what Lyn showed me! You can make the cars go through this tunnel and they come out the other side like magic!”

Chapter 140
“It’s not really magic,” Lyn said with a grin, ruffling Ollie’s hair affectionately, amused by his awe at something so mundane.

“It’s just physics. But it is pretty cool.”
I watched my son play, noting how relaxed he seemed in Lyn’s presence.
There was something gentle and non-threatening about Lyn that put Ollie at ease, unlike his reaction to Zade’s more intense energy.
“Thank you,” I said quietly to Lyn, “for suggesting the phone call. It was exactly what he needed.”
“He’s been asking about his father constantly,” Lyn replied, keeping his voice low so Ollie wouldn’t overhear. “I could see how much he was hurting. Sometimes the simplest solution is the right one.”
Ollie looked up at us, his expression becoming more serious as he asked.
“Mommy, are you still mad at me for sneaking into Alpha Zade’s office?”
I studied his face, seeing the mix of defiance and uncertainty there. He was still angry with me for taking him away from his father, but he was also my little boy who wanted reassurance that he wasn’t in terrible trouble.
