Reborn From Regret A Second Chance at Luna’s Heart

Chapter 19

Lumina

The call came immediately as I was putting the groceries away. I almost didn’t answer when I saw the name on the screen: Silvia Blackwood.

My mother-in-law rarely called unless it was absolutely necessary, and when she did, it usually meant trouble. And in that case I was the one who was receiving it.

“Lumina.” Her voice was cold as she spoke as I answered the call.

“Come to the house. Now.”

“I’m sorry, but I’m busy with-”

“It wasn’t a request.” She said and ended the call as I pulled it away from my ears and I stared at my phone, feeling that familiar dread in my stomach.

In my previous life, calls like this had always always been followed by some new humiliation or anger thrown at me, new reminders of

my actual place on the family tree.

But I wasn’t the same person anymore, and I wouldn’t let them intimidate me the way they once had.

Still, curiosity got the better of me. What could be so urgent right now that Silvia was calling me like a common servant?

The entire ride to the Blackwood Penthouse took twenty minutes to reach. The penthouse laid ahead looking old and had an aura of dark magic attached to it like a second skin.

I shuddered just seeing the place Even after years of marriage to Xenois, I still felt like an outsider every time I stepped foot on these grounds.

The housekeeper, Mrs. Chen, greeted me at the door with a sympathetic look that told me everything I needed to know about the mood inside.

“They’re waiting in the study,” she said quietly as she led me inside gently closing the door behind me. “Would you like some tea?”

“No, thank you, I don’t plan on staying long.” I said already steering myself for the argument that was forthcoming.

The study was exactly as I remembered it-the shelves filled with leather-bound books that probably hadn’t been opened In decades, there was a massive desk that took much of the room, and portraits of dead Blackwoods staring down with judgemental eyes.

Silvia sat in her usual position which happened to be her usual chair by the fireplace, her silver hair tied back in a bun, staring at me with disapproval.

Samuel stood by the window, his hands held behind his back, giving the picture of authority.

“Sit,” Silvia commanded, gesturing to the chair across from her.

I remained standing, before in my previous life. I would have rushed and sat down quickly eager to please. Funny how they didn’t look so scary to me after dying and being reborn.

“You said this was urgent. What do you want?”

Silvia’s eyes was filled with irritation at my defiance act, but she composed herself quickly.

“We’ve heard about Sophia’s return.”

Of course they had. News traveled fast in the city, especially when it involved the Alpha’s former lover.

“And?” I kept my voice neutral, unwilling to give them any vulnerability for them to take advantage of.

“Don’t play stupid with me, girl.” Silvia’s voice was as sharp as ever and still as cold.

“You know exactly what this means. Sophia and Xenois have history. A lot of history that has been written down in the history of

romance. Something that the both of you do not have.”

“Silvia, Samuel warned quietly as his wife shook her head in anger and restraint.

“No, Samuel. She needs to hear this.” Silvia stood, pacing in front of the fireplace.

“Sophia is back, and she’s vulnerable right now. She has a child to think about. Xenois will want to help her, as he should. As any

decent man would.”

I felt dread settling in my stomach as I glared at her. “What are you asking me to do?”

“I’m asking you to be reasonable. To understand that your husband has responsibilities that are beyond your marriage.

“Responsibilities.” I echoed after her. “Are we talking about financial support? Emotional support? Or something more intimate?”

The silence that followed was enough to let me know whose side Xenois parents were on this particular matter.

Samuel cleared his throat. “Lumina, you’re a smart woman. You understand how these things work in our world. Loyalty to old friends.”

‘Old friends,” I repeated bitterly refusing to cry in front of them.

‘Is that what we’re calling her now?”

Silvia turned to face me, her composure finally breaking and her patience snapping.

“You will do your best to be understanding. You will support your husband in whatever decisions he makes regarding Sophia and her child. And you will leave the rest alone.”

“Are you telling me to turn a blind eye if my husband cheats on me?”

If it comes to that, Silvia said finally, breaking the silence, then yes.”
