Reborn From Regret A Second Chance at Luna’s Heart
Chapter 20
Lumina
“You want me to sit quietly while my husband has an affair? To smile and nod while he plays happy family with another woman? To
pretend everything is fine while I’m relegated to the role of a convenient wife? The house trophy? Is that what I am being reduced to?”
“You’re being dramatic-”
“I’m being honest!” I shot back yelling at her for the first time in my life.
“For once in my life, I’m being completely honest about what you’re asking of me. And you know what? I’d rather divorce him. Let
him have his happily ever after with Sophia. Let them be together without hiding. At least have the decency to tell everyone he cheated
but he did it for love.”
The slap came so fast I barely saw it coming. Silvia slapped me so hard that it echoed through the study.
“Divorce is not an option,” she hissed, her face twisted with fury as she pointed at me as she spat out the next words.
“You will not disgrace this family with your selfishness.”
“Silvia!” Samuel moved quickly, stepping between us to stop any additional hits from being inflicted as I held my burning cheek, my
eyes wide enough in shock and fear.
“That’s enough.”
“No, Samuel. She needs to understand-”
“I said enough.” His voice carried the full weight of his Alpha voice, and even Silvia stepped back a bit, her eyes widening at him
before she looked away conceding for now.
Samuel turned to me, his expression a mixture of disappointment and frustration.
‘Lumina, I apologize for my wife’s behavior. But you need to understand that the arrangement between our families doesn’t work that
way. This is life binding. You don’t get a say in this, neither can you walk away.”
I laughed, hearing what he had to say as I shook my head bitterly.
“Of course. How could I forget? I’m not a wife, I’m a business transaction.”
“That’s not what I meant-”
“Isn’t it?” I challenged him, my hands leaving my cheek as I clenched them together in frustration.
“That’s all this has ever been, hasn’t it? A merger between powerful families. And now that his true love is back, you want me to step aside gracefully so he can have his cake and eat it too.”
Samuel’s jaw tightened with anger as he gritted through his teeth.
“Perhaps if you made more of an effort to be appealing to him, to meet with him on a deeper level, he might fall in love with you.”
The words hit me like another slap. After everything I’d endured, everything I’d sacrificed, they were still telling me it was my fault. That I was the reason my husband was cheating on me. And I should accept it.
“You two never forgave me for what happened to your daughter,” I said quietly, bringing up the past as I stared at them.
“That’s why you’re punishing me like this. That’s why you want me to suffer.”
Silvia went completely still, her face draining of color.
The threat was subtle but there. I met his eyes, refusing to let him see how his words affected me.
“Is that all?”
“That’s all.”
I turned to leave, but Silvia’s voice stopped me at the door.
“Lumina.” I looked back to see her standing by the fireplace, her composure almost restored and her eyes still burning with fury.
“You may think you understand what happened to our daughter, but you know nothing. If you’re smart, you’ll keep it that way.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
But Silvia had already turned away, dismissing me with the kind of cruelty she’d perfected over the years.
I got in my car and drove off, heading mechanically to my son’s school. It was closing time and I was going to pick him up.
Listening to him chatter about everything he did on the way home, I held his gaze taking in his every look, trying to search for any
sign of the sickness that was sure to come but there was nothing yet
I was so lost in thought that I almost missed the black sedan that had been following me since I left the estate.
Someone was watching me. The question was who, and why.
As I pulled into my driveway, my phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number:
Some secrets are better left buried. Others will kill you if you try to dig them up. Choose wisely.
Trigger Warning: Abuse of a child. Tread cautiously in case you are sensitive.
