Chapter 213
XENOIS

I watched as Lumina gently closed the door to Zade’s bedroom, leaving the Alpha alone with Lyn and Lynn and deep down I felt like I understood the real reason behind it- despite Lyn being Zade’s true mate, Lynn had spent years serving as his public Luna which meant that Lynn had also gotten close to Zade and had begun to care for him as well.
They needed time to sort through the complicated emotional situation that Zade’s curse had revealed and forced on them, especially now that the mating bond between Lyn and Zade was becoming impossible to ignore, especially with the fact that the reason that Zade was literally suffering was because Lyn was in love with him. I doubt Zade would ever doubt Lyn’s love for him after this.
“They need this moment, Lumina said quietly, echoing my thoughts as we walked down the hallway together. “Whatever happens between the three of them, they need to figure it out without an audience.”
I nodded, though part of me worried about leaving Zade vulnerable while we dealt with the immediate crisis that we were facing. Damn it, when was the last time I had a fucking break. Ever since I had found out that Riley was my son after that school accident, not a day had passed with something major not happening, my family leaving, my heart attack. Seeing Riley’s broken body on the cliff barely clinging to life, Sophia’s torture and death, racing here to grovel to my mate, and now this.
The temporary antidote Riley had provided was working, but we all knew it was just buying us time. Somewhere out there, Andy was probably already planning her next move, and we had no idea what form, her revenge would take or where she would be. I had no idea where she was staying. Was she brave enough to be in Silver Creek and cast curses or would she do it from the safety of a safe place.
“We need to get that second vial to Carol as quickly as possible,” I said, quickening my pace toward the room where the boys were having dinner with Maria. “Every minute we delay could mean the difference between life and death for Marcus.”
When we reached the kitchen, I found Riley and Ollie sitting at the large wooden table, both boys picking at plates of sandwiches and fruit while Maria bustled around preparing hot chocolate. They looked up when we entered, and I could see the exhaustion in Riley’s eyes despite his attempts to appear alert.
“Boys,” I said, crouching down to their eye level, ‘I need to ask Riley for one of the other medicine vials he has hidden. There’s another person who’s sick with the same curse that hurt Alpha Zade, and we need to get them help right away.”
Riley immediately began fumbling with the hem of his shirt, his small fingers working to locate one of the hidden tears where he d sewn the vials. The casual way he accessed his emergency medical supplies broke my heart all over again this was routine for him, something he’d learned to do quickly and quietly to avoid detection.
‘Here,’ he said, holding out another small vial filled with the same clear liquid. “This one should work the same way. But you have to make sure the sick person drinks all of it, or it won’t help properly.”
I took the vial carefully, tucking it into my jacket pocket where it would be safe during my run to Silver Creek City. Thank you, Riley. You’re being very brave and helpful.*

Chapter 213
“Are you going to find the bad lady?” Ollie asked, his green eyes wide with the kind of innocent curiosity that made dangerous
situations sound like adventures.

Before I could answer, Riley shook his head firmly. “She’s not bad,” he protested, his voice carrying the same defensive tone I’d heard
earlier when we were discussing his abuse. “Aunt Andy loves me. She taught me important things so I could be strong and useful. She only
hurt me when I was being difficult or when I needed to learn something new.”
