Chapter 215
XENOIS
76
When she finally pulled away, we were both breathing hard, and I could see tears threatening to fall that were gathering in her eyes.
“Don’t do anything stupid out there,” she said, her voice rough with emotion as she looked at me, desperately, her hands gripped on tight as she continued speaking.
“I know we still have things to work through, and we still need to figure out if this marriage is worth saving after everything that’s happened between us. But that doesn’t mean I want you to get yourself killed being reckless or doing something stupid. You absolutely
cannot DIE out there, Xenois.”
Her words hit me like a physical blow, the reminder that our relationship was still in limbo despite the intimacy we’d been sharing lately and I nodded my head. I knew better than to assume that our marriage was sealed after I gave her the freedom to leave if she chose, to pursue happiness outside if hers is out there. But underneath her practical concerns that she was giving me, I could hear the fear of someone who cared about my wellbeing regardless of our uncertain future.
“I’m worried about you facing Andy alone,” Lumina continued, her hands still fisted in my shirt like she was afraid to let me go, her
eyes never leaving my face as she kept on rambling.
“From what Riley described, she’s incredibly dangerous and completely ruthless. Promise me you won’t try to be a hero if you
encounter her.”
“I promise,” I said, meaning it completely, for once in my life. This was the first time that my wolf and I weren’t looking for a fight or
even hearing up for one “I’m not going to Silver Creek City looking for a fight. I’m going to deliver medicine to someone who needs it and
come straight back to you. No heroics, no unnecessary risks.”
“Good, Lumina said, but she still looked worried, but she knew that she couldn’t tell me to stay. There was a precious life on the line
after all.
‘Because the boys need their father, and I… I need to know you’re coming back safely.”
Before I could respond to her admission, Thorne appeared in the hallway, his expression grim but determined. He’d obviously been
listening to our conversation and had come to see me off.
‘You ready for this run?” he asked, though his tone suggested he’d rather be coming with me than staying behind.
“As ready as I can be,” I replied, then looked him directly in the eyes.
*Thorne, I need you to look after my family while I’m gone. If anything happens to me, if Andy or anyone else tries to target them-‘
‘Nothing will happen to them,” Thorne interrupted, his voice carrying the absolute certainty of an oath as he looked at me, his right hand placed across his chest as he continued speaking. “I’d die before I let any harm come to Lumina or the boys. You have my word on

that.’
The relief I felt at his promise was immense. Thorne wasn’t just my second-in-command; he was family, someone I trusted with
everything that mattered to me. If anyone could keep my loved ones safe while I was away, it was him.
“Just don’t do anything foolish yourself,” I warned him as well knowing how reckless Thorne was when it came down to protecting me
or by extension my family. “You’re important to me too, and I need to know you’ll be here when I get back.”
Thorne snorted with dark humor. “You’re one to talk about not doing anything foolish. You’re the one about to run alone through
potentially hostile woods to deliver medicine to someone in our own damn city that kills witches on sight.”
He had a point, but we both knew there wasn’t another option. Time was running out for Marcus, and I was the only one fast enough
in wolf form to make the journey quickly.
“Fair enough,” I conceded by nodding my head as I continued. “Just promise me that if you do encounter Andy, you won’t try to face
her alone. She’s more dangerous than any of us fully understand.”
“Agreed,” Thorne said, then added with a slight smile, “though you should probably follow your own advice if you run into her during
your travels.”
I pulled Lumina into another kiss, this one slower and deeper, trying to convey all the complicated emotions I didn’t have words for. Love, regret, hope, determination, and the desperate wish that things could be simpler between us.
“Look after the boys,” I murmured against her lips. “And call me if anything happens while I’m gone. Anything at all, no matter how
small or insignificant it might seem.”
‘I will, Lumina promised. “Just focus on getting to Carol safely and coming home in one piece. We’ll handle everything here.”
I stepped outside into the cool night air and immediately began stripping off my clothes, preparing for the shift that would transform
me from man to wolf.
The change always came easier when I was emotionally charged, and tonight I was running on pure determination and protective
fury.
As my wolf form came out, ready to move, Lumina reached out to run her fingers through my fur as the transformation completed, a gesture of connection that went past the uncertainty in our relationship.
Thorne stepped forward and pulled Lumina into a protective embrace as I turned toward the tree line, my enhanced hearing picking
up the sound of her heart beating fast with worry and fear.
With one last look at my family because that’s what they were, I leaped into the woods and began the long run toward Silver Creek
City.
Every step brought me closer to Carol and Marcus, closer to delivering the medicine that could save a life.

As the lights of Silver Creek City began to appear through the trees ahead of me, I thought about everything that had led to this
moment. Sophia’s schemes, Riley’s rescue, the curse that was slowly killing both Zade and Marcus, and Andy’s twisted desire for revenge.
Getting rid of the anti-witch laws in Silver Creek City wasn’t just about protecting Carol or Lyn anymore. It was about preventing the
kind of witch hunt that would condemn an innocent witch to death and still managed to protect the evil people who orchestrated such
crime.
But first, I had to get that antidote to Marcus before it was too late.
The hunt was just beginning.
