Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 326

Chapter 326

I blinked, and it was gone. Not walked away, not hidden behind a display. Gone. Vanished. Disappeared in what looked disturbingly

like a puff of smoke.

My heart was racing now, adrenaline flooding my system. That hadn’t been my imagination. That had been real. Something or

someone was following us, watching us, and I had no idea who or why.

“Mom?” Ollie asked, tugging on my sleeve. “You okay? You look weird.”

“I’m fine,” I lied, scanning the aisle one more time. Still nothing. “Just thinking about everything we need to get.”

But I wasn’t fine. Someone was watching us, using some kind of magic or ability to stay hidden. And whatever they wanted, it

couldn’t be good.

I hurried through the rest of the shopping, my luna instincts screaming danger even though I couldn’t identify the threat. The boys

sensed my anxiety and went quiet, following me without complaint as I rushed through checkout and loaded everything into the car.

It wasn’t until we were safely inside the vehicle, doors locked and engine running, that I allowed myself to breathe.

“What’s wrong?” Lake asked from the back seat, his voice sharp with concern.

I glanced at the boys in the rearview mirror. They were all staring at me-Ollie confused, Riley blank, Lake alert and ready for danger.

“I don’t know,” I admitted. “But I think someone was following us in the store.”

“Did you see them?” Lake asked immediately.

“Sort of,” I said slowly. “I saw shadows. Movement. But whenever I looked directly, there was nothing there. And at one point, I swear

something vanished in smoke.”

Lake’s expression went carefully blank in a way that suggested he knew exactly what I was describing.

“A nightwalker,” he said quietly.

“A what?”

“Nightwalkers,” he repeated. “They’re a type of supernatural that can manipulate shadows, travel through darkness. Andy used them sometimes as scouts or spies. They’re almost impossible to track unless you know what you’re looking for.”

Ice flooded my veins. If Andy’s people were here, if they were watching us, tracking us… “Why would a nightwalker be following us?”

“I don’t know,” Lake said, but his tone suggested he had theories. “But if they’re here, it means someone’s looking for something. Or

someone.”

Riley had gone very still, his expression shifting from blank to something approaching fear. “They’re looking for me,” he said quietly.

“Andy’s people. They want me back. With Andy and Sophia gone, I am the next valuable thing they need.”

“No one is taking you anywhere,” I said fiercely. “You’re under pack protection. Under alpha and luna protection. Anyone who tries to

take you will have to go through me first.”

But even as I said it, I wasn’t sure how to protect against an enemy I couldn’t see, couldn’t track, couldn’t fight.

I pulled out of the parking lot, checking the mirrors obsessively for any sign of being followed. The drive home felt longer than it

should have, every shadow suspicious, every dark corner a potential hiding spot.

By the time we reached the pack house, my nerves were shot. I ushered the boys inside quickly, abandoning the shopping bags in the

car to be retrieved later. Right now, I needed them behind pack wards, surrounded by protection, where no nightwalker could reach them without triggering every defensive spell we had.

Xenois was in his office when we arrived, surrounded by papers and looking harried. He glanced up as we entered, his expression shifting from stressed to concerned when he saw my face.

“What happened?” he asked immediately.

“We were being followed,” I said quietly, nodding toward where the boys had settled in the living room.

“In the store. I kept seeing shadows, movement. Lake says it might have been a nightwalker.”

Xenois’s expression went dark. “A nightwalker. Here. In Silver Creek.”

“That’s what Lake thinks,” I confirmed. “Which means Andy’s people might be watching us. Looking for Riley, or Lake, or both.”

“F**k,” Xenois breathed, running a hand through his hair. “As if we didn’t have enough problems.”

“What do we do?” I asked. “How do we protect against something we can’t see?”

“I don’t know,” he admitted. “But I’m going to find out. And whoever sent that nightwalker is going to regret making an enemy of this pack.”

His alpha authority filled the room, fierce and protective. But underneath it, I could sense his fear. The same fear I felt.

We’d thought bringing Riley and Lake home would be the end of the nightmare. But standing in our living room, remembering those shadows in the store, I was beginning to realize it might just be the beginning.

Whatever was coming, whoever had sent that nightwalker, we needed to be ready.

Because next time, I had a feeling they wouldn’t just watch from the shadows.

Next time, they’d come for my children.

And I would be ready to fight.
