“We’re not all like the pack that killed her family,” Lumina said firmly. “And she was a child when that happened. Surely she can see

the difference between revenge against guilty parties and condemning innocent people?”

“Logic doesn’t really apply when you’re that traumatized,” Lake said quietly, and I heard the weight of personal experience in his

words. “Snow built her entire identity around hating werewolves. It’s not something you can just talk her out of.”

“What about Dex?” I asked. “You said he can manipulate electricity. That could be useful against nightwalkers if we could somehow

get them near power sources.”

“Maybe,” Lake said doubtfully. “But Dex was… he was different. Quiet. Really quiet. He barely spoke to any of us, even during training

exercises. Riley was the only one who could get more than a few words out of him.”

“He was autistic,” Riley said bluntly. “Or something similar. Didn’t like being touched, didn’t like loud noises, needed very specific routines or he’d have complete meltdowns. Andy thought it. was a weakness at first, tried to train it out of him. When that didn’t work, she just incorporated it into his training-used his need for routine to make him a more reliable asset.”

More casual cruelty. More evidence of children being treated like tools rather than people. I was beginning to understand why Lake and Riley had such difficulty connecting emotionally-when your entire existence had been reduced to utility and efficiency, learning to

be human again took time.

“Even if we could contact them,” I said carefully, “would it be fair to pull them back into this? They escaped, they’re free. Asking them to return to fight Andy’s people seems like asking them to risk that freedom.”

“That’s what I said,” Riley muttered. “But Lake thinks they might want to help anyway. Because they hate Andy’s organization as much

as we do.”

“Do you know how to contact them?” Lumina asked Lake.

He hesitated, then shook his head. “No. We had a few code phrases we’d use during missions, ways to communicate covertly. But nothing that would work for finding someone who deliberately doesn’t want to be found.”

“Unless…” Riley trailed off, his expression going distant in that way that suggested he was seeing possibilities rather than present reality. “Unless we could track them through their abilities. Dex would need electricity to survive comfortably. He’d gravitate toward cities with reliable power grids. And Snow would avoid places with too much artificial lighting-it hurts nightwalkers if it’s too bright. So somewhere urban but with plenty of darkness.”

“That’s still a huge area to search,” I pointed out. “Urban centers with reliable power and dark spaces describes half the cities in the

country.”

“I could find them,” Riley said with unexpected certainty. “If I tried. If I really focused and let myself see the possibilities. I could narrow down the locations until I found the right probability thread.”

Chapter 338

The way he said it-casual, matter-of-fact-sent chills down my spine. Riley’s precognitive abilities were clearly far more extensive than I’d realized. The idea that he could search through possibility itself to locate specific people was both incredible and terrifying.

“That sounds exhausting,” Lumina said gently. “And probably dangerous. Pushing your abilities too hard.”

“It would take a few days,” Riley admitted. “And I’d probably need to sleep a lot afterward. But I could do it. If we decided it was

worth it.”

“Do you want to?” I asked. “Find them, I mean. See your friends again?”
