Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 387

Chapter 387

“They ran,” I said, the words tasting bitter.

“They abandoned their family rather than face the consequences of their own past.”

They’re trying to protect you, Theodore corrected gently. If certain pernatural factions realize the Blackwood pack is changing, that old alliances might be dissolving, there could be… consequences. Your parents removed themselves to avoid being leverage. To avoid forcing you to choose between family loyalty and the future you’re building.”

in it.

I wanted to argue, to say that was cowardly, that real protection mean staying and fighting together. But I could also see the twisted logic

If my parents had made deals with supernatural groups who opposed the kind of integration we were pursuing, their continued presence in pack territory could be seen as endorsement. Their silence could be interpreted as agreement with our changes.

By leaving, they removed that complication.

“Do you know where they went?” I asked.

Theodore hesitated, clearly debating how much to reveal. “I suspect they’ve gone to Moonridge.”

Moonridge. The name sent a chill down my

spine.

Moonridge was an ancient pack territory in the mountains-isolated, insular, and notorious for maintaining the old ways. It was where traditionalist werewolves went when they couldn’t stomach modern pack politics. Where old families retreated when they wanted to avoid the complexities of contemporary supernatural society.

It was also, according to legend, where the oldest supernatural agreements were kept. Where the original treaty documents were stored. Where the power brokers who’d shaped the supernatural world for centuries still maintained influence.

If my parents had gone to Moonridge, they weren’t just running. They were consulting with the very powers who might oppose everything I

was trying to build.

“Why Moonridge?” Lumina asked, voicing the question I was too angry to form coherently.

“Because that’s where the answers are,” Theodore said simply. “If your parents want to understand what consequences their past choices might have on your present actions, Moonridge is where they’d find that information. And if they’re trying to… mitigate potential damage, to call in old favors or renegotiate old agreements, that’s where they’d need to go.”

“So they’re not just hiding,” I said slowly. “They’re trying to fix something. To protect us from threats we don’t even know about yet.”

“Perhaps,” Theodore agreed. “Though I can’t say for certain. Your parents dismissed me along with the rest of the staff. I wasn’t privy to this- their final plans. But I’ve known them for decades, Alpha. I raised you alongside them. I know how they think, how they operate. And this leaving without explanation, shutting down the estate, going dark-it’s the kind of thing they’d do if they believed they were protecting you by distancing themselves.”

“Even if it meant breaking their grandson’s heart?” I asked, my voice rugh.

Theodore’s expression crumpled slightly.

They love Ollie more than anything. Which is precisely why they’d ht him to keep him safe.”

We sat in silence for a moment, the weight of everything settling overs like a shroud.

My parents weren’t just disapproving traditionalists running from charge. They were former warriors trying to manage fallout from wars I didn’t even know had been fought. They were dealing with complications from their own past that could threaten our present.

And they’d chosen to handle it alone, without explanation, without giving me a chance to understand or help.

“Thank you for telling me this, I said finally.

“I know it couldn’t have been easy.”

“Your parents would likely prefer I’d said nothing,” Theodore admitted “But you’re alpha now, Xenois. You need to understand what you’re

up against. Not just the traditionalists in your own pack, but the larger supernatural world that’s watching to see if you’ll succeed or fail in

what you’re attempting.”

He stood, preparing to leave, then paused.
