Chapter 398
ZADE
Plasma blast, Lyn said, his voice tight with recognition. “Superheated energy projected as a weapon. That’s not a common ability.”
“I think that’s Shawn,’ I said, scanning the tree line on either side of the road. “Lyn, can you reach him? Tell him we’re friendlies?”
But Lyn was already focused inward, his eyes slightly unfocused as he projected mentally toward wherever Shawn was hiding.
Another blast hit the road, this time to our right, close enough that lt the heat through the SUV’s frame. Whatever Shawn’s power was,
he had impressive range and accuracy.
“He doesn’t know it’s us,” Lyn said urgently. “He thinks we’re the people who took Samuel and Silvia coming back for him. He’s terrified and
attacking on instinct.”
“Can you calm him down before he vaporizes us?” Lynn asked, her voice remarkably steady considering we were currently under fire from a panicked teenage werewitch.
“Working on it,” Lyn said through gritted teeth.
I watched as a figure emerged from the forest-young, male, dressed in torn clothes and covered in dirt and what looked like dried blood. His hands were glowing with that same blue-white energy, and his face was a mask of terror and determination.
Shawn. Had to be.
He looked maybe seventeen, with dark hair that fell into his eyes and build that suggested he hadn’t been eating regularly for a while. But what struck me most was the raw power radiating from him-the kind of magical presence that made my wolf instincts scream warnings about dangerous predators.
This wasn’t some weak, untrained teenager. This was someone who’d been forced to develop combat abilities just to survive.
“Shawn!” I called out the window, keeping my hands visible. “We’re friends! Lyn sent us! We’re here to help!”
Another plasma blast answered me, this one hitting the hood of our SV and leaving a smoking dent in the metal. I swore and threw the vehicle into reverse, backing away from the crater to put more distance between us and the terrified werewitch.
“Lyn,’ I said urgently, “I really need you to get through to him before kills us.”
“I’m trying!” Lyn snapped, sweat beading on his forehead from the effect of maintaining the mental connection while Shawn’s mind was clearly in full panic mode. His thoughts are chaotic-he’s not processing tional information. He just knows there’s a vehicle and people and potential threat.”
Lynn had her hands on Lyn’s temples, channeling her own magic to hp stabilize the connection. I could see the strain on both their faces, the way their breathing synchronized as they worked together.
‘Shawn, listen to me,” Lyn said aloud, though I knew he was also proting the words mentally. “My name is lyn. I’m the one you called for help. I’m a werewitch like you. These people with me are pack member from Zade’s territory. We came to find you. We came to help rescue Samuel and Silvia. Please, stop attacking and let us help you.”

Chapter 398
For a moment, nothing changed. Shawn’s hands remained raised, enery crackling around his fingers, his expression wild with fear and
adrenaline.
Then, slowly, the glow began to fade.
His hands lowered fractionally. His breathing, which had been rapid ad panicked, started to slow. And his eyes-wide and terrified- focused on Lyn through the SUV’s window.
“Lyn?’ His voice was hoarse, barely carrying across the distance. “Is it eally you?”
“It’s really me,” Lyn confirmed, his tone gentle in a way I’d only heard him use with children or frightened patients. And I brought help. We’re not here to hurt you, Shawn. We’re here to help you find Samuel and Silvia.”
Shawn took a shaky step forward, then another, moving toward our vehicle with the uncertainty of someone who desperately wanted to believe but was terrified of being wrong. The energy around his hands had completely dissipated now, leaving him looking young and vulnerable and utterly exhausted.
I opened my door slowly, keeping my movements non-threatening as stepped out of the SUV. Rivers did the same on the passenger side, while Marcus and Theo emerged from their vehicle behind us.
“Easy,” I said, using the same tone I’d use to approach a spooked animal. “Nobody’s going to hurt you. You’re safe now.”
Shawn’s eyes locked onto me, and I saw the moment recognition hit. You’re Alpha Zade. You’re Lyn’s mate.”
“That’s right, I confirmed. “And you’ve been through hell, but it’s over now. We’re going to get you somewhere safe, get you food and medical attention, and then we’re going to figure out how to rescue Samuel and Silvia. Okay?”
He nodded, and then his legs seemed to give out. He collapsed onto the damaged road, his whole body shaking with delayed shock and exhaustion.
I moved quickly, crossing the distance and dropping to my knees beside him. Up close, I could see he was in worse shape than I’d initially thought-dehydrated, malnourished, covered in scrapes and bruises that suggested he’d been running through rough terrain for hours.
“Hey,” I said gently, putting a hand on his shoulder. “When’s the last time you ate?”
“Yesterday morning,” Shawn said, his voice breaking. “Before the attack. I lost our supplies when they took Samuel and Silvia. I’ve been walking ever since, trying to find help.”
“You did good,” I told him firmly. “You reached out to Lyn, you survive, you stayed strong. Now let us take care of you.”
Lyn and Lynn had climbed out of the SUV and were approaching caretly. Lyn immediately went into healer mode, kneeling beside Shawn and running his hands over him in a diagnostic scan.
‘Severe dehydration,” he announced,
“Magical exhaustion from using combat abilities without proper train or preparation. Multiple contusions and lacerations, none serious but all needing treatment. And emotional trauma that’s probably going to feed addressing once we handle the physical issues.”
“I have water and protein bars in the vehicle,” Marcus called out, already digging through our emergency supplies.
“And I have medical supplies,” Theo added, moving to help Lyn with immediate treatment.

I stayed where I was, keeping physical contact with Shawn as an anchor. I could feel him trembling under my hand-the aftershocks of adrenaline crash mixing with exhaustion and fear and relief.
‘Shawn,” Lyn said softly, moving to kneel on the teenager’s other side I need to ask you some questions about the attack. About where it happened and what you remember about the people who took Samuel and Silvia. Can you handle that right now, or do you need more time?”
‘I can do it,” Shawn said immediately, though his voice was shaking. want to help. I need to help. It’s my fault they got taken-
“Stop,” I interrupted firmly, using alpha authority to cut through his spiral. “This is not your fault. You’re a teenager who got caught up in something way beyond your control. The people who took Samuel and Silvia are responsible for their own actions. Not you. Understand?”
