Chapter 473
XENOIS
We went downstairs to where the permanent portal stood-a shimmer in the air that connected our house to Zade’s territory. It had become so normal that I barely noticed it anymore, this impossible tear in reality that let us walk between territories as easily as moving
between rooms.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“Zade has a cabin in the mountains,” Lumina said. “About twenty miles from the main pack house. He said we could use it. Completely
private, fully stocked, no one around for miles.”
“You planned this,” I realized.
“I planned this,” she confirmed. “Because if I left it up to you, you’d find seventeen reasons why we couldn’t leave.”
She wasn’t wrong.
We stepped through the portal, reality folding around us in that distinctive sensation that still made my stomach flip despite months of regular use. On the other side, we were in Zade’s territory-specifically his main pack house.
Lyn was waiting, holding keys and a knowing smile.
“Cabin’s about thirty minutes northwest,” he said, handing over the keys. “Fully supplied, completely private. You’re welcome to stay as long as you need.”
“Thank you,” I said sincerely.
“Enjoy yourselves,” Lyn said. “And Xenois? Turn off your phone. The world will survive without you for a few hours.”
“I can’t just ”
“Turn. Off. Your. Phone,” Lumina said firmly.
“Fine, I conceded, pulling out my phone and powering it down. “But if something catastrophic happens-”
“Thorne knows where you are,” Lyn interrupted. “He’ll portal to get you if there’s a genuine emergency. Otherwise, you’re officially off
duty.”
It felt wrong. Irresponsible. Like I was abandoning my pack when they needed me.
It also felt amazing.

We drove to the cabin in comfortable silence, Lumina’s hand in mine, the weight of responsibility slowly lifting from my shoulders
with each mile.
The cabin was perfect-isolated, rustic, completely private. Large windows overlooking mountain views, a stone fireplace, comfortable furniture that suggested frequent use.
“How often does Zade use this place?” I asked as we entered.
“Whenever he and Lyn need to escape, Lumina said. ‘Apparently being alpha is stressful for everyone, and having a private retreat
helps maintain sanity.”
“I should get us a cabin,” I said.
‘You should,” Lumina agreed. “But tonight, this one is ours.”
She pulled me toward the bedroom, and I let myself be pulled. Let myself stop thinking about pack responsibilities and coalition
politics and all the various crises demanding attention.
Tonight, I was just Xenois. Just a man with his mate, with time and privacy and the freedom to focus on nothing but each other.
Later-much later-we lay tangled together, satisfied and exhausted in the best possible way.
“We should do this more often,” I said, running my fingers through Lumina’s hair.
“We absolutely should,” she agreed. “Maybe weekly. Mandatory alpha decompression time.”
“I like that idea,” I admitted.
“Good. Because I’m making it pack law. Luna’s authority and everything.”
I laughed, feeling lighter than I had in weeks. “Abuse of power.”
“Necessary use of power,” she corrected. “You’re no good to anyone if you burn out from stress. So taking breaks-actual breaks, not
just rearranging schedule items-becomes a leadership requirement.”
“You’re very wise,” I said.
‘I know,” she said smugly. “It’s why you mated with me.”
‘One of many reasons, I agreed, pulling her closer,
We lay there in comfortable silence, watching moonlight through the windows, feeling the peace of being completely disconnected
from our usual responsibilities.

Chapter 473
My phone was off. No one could reach us. For these few hours, we were just us-not Alpha and Luna, not parents, not coalition leaders. Just two people who loved each other and needed time to remember why.
