Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 474

Chapter 474

THORNE

I was reviewing security reports in my office when every light in the pack house went dark.

Complete, sudden darkness.

My wolf vision kicked in immediately, letting me see in shades of gray, but the abruptness of it set off every alarm bell in my tactical mind.

Power outages didn’t happen like this. Not in a territory with backup generators and redundant electrical systems specifically designed to prevent total failures.

This was intentional.

“Marcus!” I shouted, already moving toward the door. “Report!”

His voice came from somewhere down the hallway. “Checking now! Looks like a blown fuse in the main electrical panel, but-*

He didn’t finish the sentence because we both realized the same thing at the exact same moment.

The basement.

We had a nightwalker imprisoned in the basement. Lazarus, Jerome’s brother, held in a cell that relied on UV lighting to keep him contained. UV lighting that required electricity.

“Fuck,” I breathed, already running.

I heard Marcus behind me, his footsteps pounding as we raced through the darkened house. Other pack members were emerging from rooms, confused and alarmed by the sudden power loss.

“Stay in your rooms!” I commanded, using alpha authority despite not technically being alpha. “Lock your doors and don’t come out until we give the all-clear!”

I didn’t wait to see if they obeyed. The basement was my priority.

We reached the door and I wrenched it open, taking the stairs three at a time. The basement was pitch black without the UV lights, which meant-

I heard movement. Fast, predatory movement that could only be one thing.

Lazarus was free.

“Lights!” I shouted at Marcus.

He pulled out his phone, activating the flashlight. The beam cut through the darkness, illuminating the basement cell.

The door was still closed. Still locked. But through the reinforced glass, I could see Lazarus standing, no longer cowering from UV radiation. He looked directly at us, and his smile was absolutely terrifying.

“Backup generators should have kicked in by now,” Marcus said, his voice tight with tension.

“Someone sabotaged them,” I said, my mind racing through possibilities. “This wasn’t an accident. Someone deliberately cut power knowing exactly what it would do.”

As if summoned by my words, I heard footsteps on the stairs behind us. Multiple sets of footsteps.

I spun, positioning myself defensively, and saw three figures descending into the basement. They wore dark clothes and had faces I

didn’t recognize-which meant they weren’t pack members.

Infiltrators.

*Step away from the cell,” one of them commanded. Female voice, carrying the kind of confidence that came from knowing you had the advantage.

“Not happening,” I said flatly.

“We’re not here for you,” she said. “We’re here for Lazarus. Let us take him and no one gets hurt.”

“Also not happening,” Marcus added.

The woman sighed like we were being unreasonable. “We disabled your power. We sabotaged your backup generators. We have reinforcements positioned throughout your territory. This rescue operation was planned meticulously. You cannot win this fight.

“Watch us,” I said.

I shifted-not fully, just enough to get claws and enhanced strength-and launched myself at the nearest infiltrator.

The fight was fast and brutal. Three against two, in darkness, while trying to prevent anyone from reaching the cell holding an

extremely dangerous nightwalker.

I took down one attacker with a strike to the throat, heard Marcus grappling with another. The female leader was heading for the cell,

pulling out what looked like specialized lock-breaking equipment.
